Well since none of us were there I suppose you are asking for Biblical explanation ;) And if so, here ya go...

Hebrews 4
14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

I hope this helps, it's pretty good to me :D

Blessings,

Hi!

I'll explain my understanding of this briefly.
Before adam sinned he was not tempted to disobey. He needed to be tempted by a third party.
After he sinned one of the things that changed was that he was now tempted from within. The sinful nature came and dwelt "in his members". This sinful nature was passed on from Adam to all his children.
Eve did not pass it on (genesis 3:15)
Jesus was born of a virgin so did not have a sinful nature. He was not tempted from within. He needed the satan to come and personnally tempt Him. This si why such a big deal is made of the temptation in the wilderness.

Also before Adam sinned he was not going to die. He could die, but he need not have.

Jesus was the same, He could die but He need not have.
We do not choose to die. We can choose when we die perhaps, but we cannot choose if we will die. Jesus chose to die...He laid it down freely.

Imagine if you were on death row for murder and another man on death row offered to die in your place. He could not substitute as he is gong to die anyway.
However if an innocent man offered to die in your place he may be able to because he would not be under the "sentence of death".
Thus Jesus realy could die in our place and undo what adam did.

Not that I disagree but I'm just curious if you believe Jesus would have inherited a sinful nature had Mary not have been a virgin. I'm not asking if He would have had a sinful nature if He had been born of the seed of a man. Obviously He had to have been born of the seed of God but I'm just curious if you think it a necessity that He be born of a virgin.

Thanks,
God bless

Same to you my friend. I've been helping my friend repaint the entire interior of his new house. Gruesome work but great company.

Good to see you again. :)

As much as I despise painting that would have to have been REALLY great company! (Which is why I'm letting my wife and her friend paint the nursery.:))

I'll second FOM's comment. Good to see your posts again Don.

Yes I do.

Here is the abstract from a book on the subject (avaliable to read or download online)

Abstract: This study is about the central message of the Christian faith: the redemption of mankind by the offering of the body of Christ, once for all. From data both scientific and theological, the author discusses some of the physical effects of the Fall of Adam from eating the forbidden fruit which then necessitated the Redeemer's virgin birth and incarnation, of why and how this Redeemer had to be both human and divine, and the physical aspects of the Redeemer's crucifixion and resurrection. Our redemption depends upon the kind of physical body possessed by both the First and the Last Adam. This study reveals how the Plan of Redemption determined just how God had to design mankind and even the very Universe for such an event.

and...

The Articles of the Christian Faith, which together form an organic unity in which each Article is essential, are given by revelation. We cannot pick and choose ‹ even though common sense tells us Virgin Birth is not possible.
The Virgin Birth (or rather, the Virgin Conception) and the Incarnation are miracles, and beyond scientific analysis ‹ yet not quite wholly so. The light from genetics and embryology only increases our wonder without decreasing the miracle. Nor does it reduce the need for the exercise of faith.
The Plan of Redemption depends upon the creation of man in the manner stated in Genesis. There could not be two separate creations: one for Adam and one for Eve. Unless Adam was created and then Eve taken out of him, there could not be one Redeemer to stand in the place of all men.
Genetics shows us how this was done: theology tells us why it was done. And so our Faith is also rationally satisfying.

Another thought that comes to mind on a related issue...

Of course we know that God can do anything, so Jesus could have been uncorrupt in any way God chose. But it seems that the way God chose was that He had to be born of a virgin.

Have you ever wondered why Paul say//"if Chrsi be not raised then you are still in your sins".?

This seems to me to be a related issue. Our salvation depends on certain events happening a certain way.
Arthur Custance gives an interesting explantion in another part of his writing as to why Paul said this.

Perhaps another post?
