  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

my fourth try

i dont know anything about the mennonite church. would you know what we have in common?

so, basicly, youre saying you had a good experience with our church.;) it led you to study your bible more and meet our savior.

"I asked where Jesus commanded us to keep the Sabbath and I am still waiting for that answer as I am from any SDA whom I have come in contact thru the internet." i think the closest "command" in the new testament from Jesus is Mat 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

i can only tell you of my experience on the sabbath: many times i dont want it to end.

as for the ij, i understand it and believe it is biblical.
'dedication.www3.50megs.com/journy' is one nontheological presentation i thought was beautiful.
another one similar to the above but by a nonsda is
'cyber-church.com/khandie/EnterintheMostHolyplace.'

if you check them out let me know what you think.

it sounds like God has your education well in hand. and you are right, its all about Jesus. its so easy to study the bible and know the facts but completely bypass the Reason. i know because im struggling with that myself.

I asked my s-i-l many questions of which most of the time there was an air of avoidance or he had all the right answers and when I specifically asked what lead him to SDA he said: "They had the truth". I asked where Jesus commanded us to keep the Sabbath and I am still waiting for that answer as I am from any SDA whom I have come in contact thru the internet.

When G W Bush was elected the first time in 2000, did he declare the previous Federal laws would be in effect during his term?

No. Because it wouldn't have been necessary.

The Law of God are written in stone literally and is stored in heaven. They are immutable.

The sabbath commandment as it's defined in Exodus 20 commemorates God's creation. As long as God's creation still exists, the Sabbath Commandment will continue to bind on His people.

There has been no change to the 10 commandments. Where in the bible does it say one or all of the 10 commandments were changed? None of all you quoted are actually talking about doing away with the 10 commandments as the standard of Christian conduct.

If it had been a change to one or all of God's 10 commandments, don't you think there would have been more explicit commandment from God Himself who wrote them with His own finger???

I think the speed limit change in my state a few years ago was more explicitly spelled out.

Furthermore the Old Testament was called faulty because it was man's promise to keep them. The new covenant is better because it is based on a better promise: God's promise to write the law in our hearts, Hebrews 8:6-10.

If the 10 commandments in part or as a whole are done away, then why did God promise to write them in our hearts under the new covenant???

Were the law of God written in David's heart?

Psalm 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.

When the law is written on the heart, you obey it naturally. Like David, all of the true believers of the Old Testament were under the New Covenant for salvation. That's why it's called the eternal covenant.

Genesis 15:6 Abraham believed in the LORD, and He counted to him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3).

So was Abraham saved under the New Covenant of Grace or the Old Covenant of Work???

hi chriscarol,

were you responding to both posts, or one or the other?

i didnt quote all of matthew 24 but i assume you have a bible program and can look up the context.

"I asked where Jesus commanded us to keep the Sabbath and I am still waiting for that answer as I am from any SDA whom I have come in contact thru the internet."

i think the closest "command" in the new testament from Jesus is Mat 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

its interesting that Jesus only quoted the 5 of the 6 commandments pertaining to man and left out the first four pertaining to God. then the last "commandment" was really a summation of all 6.

the sabbath, as all the commandments, has to be kept in heart out of love for God and not out of duty. if you dont see the importance of it right now i dont see any reason to "justify" it.:)

its sad that giving up his riches was too hard for that young man. i also have let my Savior down so many times.

do you know what beliefs mennonites and sdas have in common.

hi,

i have 3 adult children who have children, a couple of them adults already. my how time passes, speeds by!

Mat 24:16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains: 17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house: 18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

Mat 24:19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

Mat 24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

i understood pregnant and nursing in this context to mean life would be very difficult. in wartorn and famine countries the parents must really be suffering not being able to provide for the little ones they brought into the world. so i look at it in that context. that Jesus was saying it was going to be hard, but i dont think He was saying to not nurse our babies.

Jesus was also thinking of how hard it would be on people having to flee persecution in the winter time. putting aside whether saturday or sunday is the day for worship right now, it seems He knew we need that time with Him even more than ever during persecution.

do you know much of the mennonite history? that would be interesting to know.
