Gwingert,
There is no proof that Saddam was working on nuclear weapons, i.e. WMD. But there is proof that terrorist groups were allowed to gather in Iraq. Saddam supported them as long as they were anti-America. Even the Democrats know this is true. The sad part is that the terrorist groups were not just any anti-American group... They were planning 9/11 between 2 til 3 years or so. Of course, Iraq and Saddam were not the only supporters of the Terrorist groups within the Middle East.
The WMD's were not the only reason that the Bush Administration decided to declare war on Iraq. Saddam Hussein was a horrible dictatorship. He reign was with tyranny and as far as I'm concerned the people of Iraq needed to liberated...
My hope, when all of this is done, is that the Iraqi people are truly free to make their decisions through "voting". Maybe at first the Sunnis (SP?) will have the most power, but if the Iraqi government is set up in a Democratic form or even in a Socialistic form, the people will figure out that the true power lies with them in how they vote. Instead of having constant civil war or warring against different religions, they will vote on things and solve their problems in a peaceful way. Atleast, that is my object way of thinking. I could be wrong, I don't know the future, I don't believe that you nor anyone else here or in politics - truly knows the future. But what I do know is that we couldn't sit on our hands and do nothing. We had done nothing far too long.
Someone compared the U.S. to Nazi Germany... your comparison is incorrect. You should of compared Nazi Germany to Iraq. It was Iraq who had a horrible, murderous foul dictatorship who rule of tyranny needed to end. Ask the Iraqis who live here in the US... Most of them rejoiced when the US invaded Iraq and put the Hussein tyranny down. Granted there has been many lives lost, many children made orphans and yes, this could lead to these children growing up hating America and all that we stand for... But I nor anyone else truly knows if this will happen or not. I cannot, nor you or anyone, predict the future.
What I'm also hoping for is eventually when the Iraqi people realize that they truly have freedom, even at a great price that they have paid for it... As we Americans and the Brits have paid for their freedom... Hopefully, in time, this will aid to them understanding that with the price of freedom comes death and heartache, but eventually, they will rise above it and will be better and stronger and enjoy their right to liberty, freedom and justice for all.
