  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Obviously nothing symbolizes Israel or Jews more than a Christmas tree, right? Makes perfect sense to try to derail the lighting that so many people enjoy. Or maybe there's something more on the minds of the barbarians inside our gates...

I think I see what you're saying. You're affirming the old showbiz adage that "there's no such thing as bad publicity". I disagree. I'm not going to "protest" radical Islam by derailing some innocent people's Easter egg hunt. It would only make me look stupid and mean.

What was the last thing that got you out into the streets to voice your opinion over?

No but seriously, that would be the time I protested the Columbia Broadcasting System cancelling Gilligan's Island in 1967. Unfortunately I was the only one out in the street and I got hit by a car, but that's okay, it only adds victimhood to my virtue. But I'll admit I've held mildly racist sentiments against Columbians ever since then.

No but seriously, I grew up in a small walnut farming community. Every year we had a walnut parade where someone was chosen as Walnut King and got to ride on a float in the parade. This one year I just knew I deserved to be chosen but instead they gave the title to that jerk Todd again, no doubt due to his dad's illicit underground business operation if you know what I mean. I protested that but again, I was the only one in the street and this time I got hit by a float, but that's on me because I've never been very quick or agile.

No but seriously, I don't get the point of your question.

Other people feel strongly about an issue and “disrupt things” on purpose to raise awareness about what has them doing these crazy things.
I have protested various injustices and grave environmental policies; granted I haven’t hit the pavements in decades but I did some sign holding and picketing and such.
I was curious what got your hackles up enough to do such.

It looks to me like there's quite a bit of misunderstanding and disorientation on both sides of the picket line ...

Let's see what we have here:

1) On one side of things, we have some overly liberal folks who apparently don't realize the incongruence of associating Judaism and/or modern political concepts of "Israel" with a Christmas time celebration.

2) On the other side of things, we have some others----a mix of liberal, traditional, maybe a pinch of conservative folks----who want to enjoy the lighting of a winter time tree but who don't realize the confusion it brings to plant that tree right over a statue of Prometheus but still call it a "Christmas Tree."

Gee.............................................. whiz................................................... people!!! It doesn't get any better than this. Good Times! :dontcare:

I think it's high time we stop calling such folks "liberal". I never took hate, violence and genocide as being liberal values, but, maybe I've always been wrong.

If a pagan or an atheist or a Jew stands next to a Christmas tree, that doesn't somehow make it not a Christmas tree.

Would you rather than I call them "Neo-Marxists"?

If you refer back to the OP you'll see that I called them barbarians. I think that's fitting.

Maybe so, but I'm not sure that you're getting the gist of what I was saying in my first post. My whole point is that there is ideological confusion all over, even on "both" [are there two sides?] political sides, even where this thing called "Christmas" is concerned.

But yeah, where simply acknowledging that a peaceful gathering of people who have come together to celebrate the lighting of a "yuletide" tree has been made the center of an attempted disruption by hyper-ventilating and caustic social warriors, I suppose we could lean toward citing the attempted incursion as being a group of "barbarians."

I guess you're right, I'm not getting it. I'm not experiencing any ideological confusion.

I wasn't implying that you, yourself, are experiencing ideological confusion. I was merely implying that I think that where the specific "Christmas" event under discussion is concerned (which I saw part of in dazzling display on T.V. the other night), there was apparent confusion about "Christimas" exhibited on both "sides" (with both sides being diverse in nature, ironically) represented at that event.

My problem is that I'm just not a fan of Prometheus. When I see that sort of thing, it's makes me want to go all Mary Shelley on people. :sorry:

I still don't get it. The people who came out to watch a Christmas tree lighting are confused about Christmas? I don't know where you're getting that. It wasn't in the article I linked.

Well you better not go near the U.S. Supreme Court building then. There is sculpture of pagans there. Even a depiction of Muhammad. A bit of a wonder why his followers haven't blown that building up yet. Any day now, I'm sure.

I've never done such things.
I’m very glad that you’ve lived such a charmed (blessed?) life that nothing riled you up to the point of going out into the streets to protest the goings-on that might have left you with no choice but to take to the streets to voice your displeasure.

You probably would get it if you've seen the Prometheus statue I'm referring to. I guess some folks thinks it's a "Christian Angel" or something, along with the astrological signs that were also floating around the background.

Of course, I have to admit that Cher looked pretty good for the age she is. There was that at least. ^_^

I think you're misunderstanding me and reading too much into what it is you 'think' I'm implying. I fully realize there are a boat load of statues here, there and everywhere that aren't so appropos from a Christian standpoint. I'm not going to do anything about any of that other than flick my tongue at it with the wisdom of a serpent.
