Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you guys think of the T.V. coverage of the war?  It's been non-stop since the first strike.

It's on every station 24/7.  Kinda like 9/11 and that went on for weeks!!  Even if the war does continue I hope they at least let us watch something else besides night scope pictures of NOTHING.

ugh!!  :(

 Today’s technology is really something. Seeing the war in real time allows us to see what are troops are really going through and how well trained they are. Fox news has shown a lot of daytime scenes and not just night scope shots. God bless the troops

I totally agree - thus far I like Foxnews coverage the best!  I'm glad that I don't get CNN.

God bless our troops.

[font="verdana, arial, helvetica"]The media has fallen down flat on the coverage.  I'm talking about the total abdication of responsibilty by the media, for reporting on the various atrocities and double-standards here. Where is the investigative journalism? Where is the expose of the Bush administration? The comparison to past presidents?

The problem is that, in this country, the news media has become so thoroughly co-opted by Wall Street that it has ceased to perform its function of watchdog on the govt. When information (or "info-tainment", as in this case) becomes a market-driven commodity, the end result is watered-down fluff that panders to mediocrity and skips any hint of disagreeing with the govt.

None of the US networks are going to take a serious, hard look at the USA's double standards and the transparent hypocrisies of the Bush Administration. Why not? Because Gulf War II is going to be the biggest 'reality TV' event for the entire year, and they don't want it to be cancelled. They also realize that, if they don't play nice with this administration and only toss slow-pitch softball questions to its members, that they could pay a heavy price. They will be ignored and marginalized when it comes to getting access to the administration, Powell, Bush, etc. No single media news source is willing to take that gamble, and be left out of the feeding frenzy. So instead of looking at the real issues, we get this saccharine examination a very serious subject.

One caller on NPR summed it up: from the attitudes of the average American and the media, one would think that we're just gearing up for the SuperBowl, instead of embarking on a highly questionable military adventure.

Where is the expose of the Bush administration?

Well, that would be in your head only - not on the actual WAR COVERAGE, like the OP. Sheesh

watered-down fluff

Huh?  Investigating the motivations and backroom deals of this administration is very relevant to this war.  We wouldn't even be there, if it weren't for some key events and the undue influence of certain Washington players and think-tanks.  The fact that you are apparently clueless about any of this sort of invalidates any opinions you have about the conduct of the war.

Convoy - I have no idea what you're talking about.  I doubt you do, either.

Planet - no, I'm on this one.  I simply know more about this issue than you do, and that seems to bother you.

Now that we've got THAT over, did you have anything of substance to say about my post on the media abdicating its role to objectively report the facts?  Or are you just shooting blanks here?

What is it that you know?

Please notice that I used the word "know"... not suspect or think .

Know?  For starters, Stormy, I have a BA in Arabic language.  And a 2nd BA in Mideast affairs.  I was also an Arabic translator for the US Navy.  So I KNOW quite a bit about the history, culture and politics of the region, and this event in particular.

So now - what exactly is it that you "know" about the topic?

I did not claim to know anything.

You did...

"I simply know more about this issue than you do, and that seems to bother you."

That is what you said to another poster.

So what is it you know??

I support the effort being made by my country and its armed forces.

Tell me why I should not.

Ah - the intellectual elite. Parchment = correctness. You can still be wrong, which you are. Do you have friends throwing up on sidewalks? Or throwing rocks and paint balls at commuters? More of the intellectual elite in action. M

The media is kind of like a radio station who plays a "hit" song over and over and over again until you just can't take it no more.

All the talking heads just kill me, where did they all come from.

As far as the expose on Bush, to their gain they took a lesson from the way Clinton was hammered, and planned on having none of that.
What was the first act they did, made his fathers records non-public until Bush is long gone....smart!!

How does knowing the Arab culture and history, make one the final authority on the internal affairs of the White House? And, Presidents are compared to former Presidents, only after they leave office, so you have a complete record, to compare with previous complete records.

That aside, I can see some degree of bias coming from most media outlets, some worse than others.

What has that got to do with combat coverage? What?

Reagan had the right idea in Grenada...accomplish the mission and then invite the press

Has there ever been one thing here that you haven't criticzed?

To get differant perspectives on what's going on, and to get stories that are "filtered out" of our news.
