• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Greetings, I know there are going to be a few people here who take some swings at me from the start. But here it goes:

My libido has spiked lately. This hasn't happened since college when I started going over 8 times a week on masturbation. Like last time, it's almost risen to an average of 3 times a day. I've never looked at porn in my existence, but I once struggled with erotica-fiction (I'm sorry to say).

When I was in college, the way I simmered down was by chosing to forget eatting periodically - and trying not to be so stressed. I lost weight, lost strength and stamina, and ended up playing more video games... I started to get back down to a healthy 8 times a week.

I can't really use my diet approach this time since last time encited alot of trouble. I'm a little too thin this time around.

I thanked God deeply for my health this Thanksgiving, but I'm sorry to say that it's become a 2-edged sword... again...

Well, start lifting weights. You can live off of juices and stuff (a type of fast) and lift weights and stuff to build up strength and endurance. Fasting is good, though, because it teaches your body discipline and how to say no. I say keep doing it if you want, but you can't go too long without food!

I'm rather confused. if your interested in stopping it all together start exercising every time your libido spikes. I mean like running. get out of the house and get active. and start eating. It is not healthy to stop one thing that is necessary for life(food) so that your libido can be satisfied and normal

LOL... exercise is good... but I sometimes find that enhanced stamina and testasterone levels compounds the problem later on (this has happened)...

Thankyou for you-all's support. Fortunately, I've been able to simmer down through a number of outlets. One of these outlets was a song that I just had to finish sequencing on my tracker, and lost ALOT of sleep over... Back to a balanced average again!

Hi,

I promise I'm not going to take a swing at you, but I *am* going to gently suggest that reducing your self abuse to 'just' 8 times a week is not victory, just the start of a battle to cut it out of your life entirely. I don't know whether you have a girlfriend, and if you do whether she's a Christian, but I don't think any Christian girl would feel comfortable with what you're doing right now.

Also, I don't think that denying your body proper nutrition is a way to drive Satan's temptations away. God created your body and you owe it to him to feed it properly, just as you do to not abuse it for selfish pleasure.

So - will you promise me you'll try to eat better? By all means, if you're tempted by lust, go for a run or use the gym - anything to occupy your mind and tire your body - but above all, pray to God and fill your soul with good thoughts so Satan has no space to creep in.

Um... I'm not sure you understood. I ate less because I didn't want to focus on lust as much as I was doing. I ate less because I wanted to "go at it" ONLY once a day, not three...

However, this recent equilibrium has showed me how stupid I was. I managed to find lots of ways to keep it down to once a day in the past week since I posted. The other half of the reason I didn't eat last semester was because of depression. Since I'm not as depressed as I was, I no longer abuse myself through my past of aneorexia (ha, and you women though men couldn't have that).

I've been doing calisthenics lately. And I've been focusing alot on my electronic music...

I've never had a girlfriend... I once had a female friend who wasn't a Christian, but we barely knew each other. I may be a virgin, but my imagination always runs away with me. I may not like the fact that females have eluded me my short life, but I have to find a way to live with it - especially since my sexual energies are reaching their peak at this age.

Furthermore... I'm not sure masturbation is self-abuse. It clears the prostate, reduces the chance of prostate cancer. It relieves stress... destroys insomnia... provides physical touch... flushes hormones... cuts down on eagerness to desire real people... It may not be what God intended for us humans, but we are overpopulated, overly lustful, and emotionally mutated.

Brother, if you are truly serious about cutting down...the way is to take all that energy and focus it on your relationship with the Lord. Make sure you are doing your daily quiet time and staying in fellowship with other believers. I was a lot like you, then got married and continued to touch. I realized that masturbation was damaging my sexual relationship with my wife and quite honestly with the Lord too. I am free now and for me the key has been to keep my focus on the Lord. When I take my focus off the Lord..the tempation increases and mistakes happen. If you are interested I host an MSN group for men that struggle with sexual addictions. The link is in my profile.

I'm happy to report that I've gone 2 whole days without masturbation or fantasy. A new record for this winter/fall.

I doubt I can go much longer. It's terrible to have it burden you after a long time... I detest mystery errections that happen for no reason...

Idealy, I'd like to get down to once a week without fantasy. It wish I could simply command myself to extinguish once a week without any stimulation at all. I don't think it's healthy for the prostate to quit [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] totally.

I also wish that we didn't peak at this age. I'm almost 20, and I've been doing this for over 10 years, and I sure hope that my sexual drive starts to go downhill in the near future.

Um... isn't masturbation suppost to be a poor substitute for the real thing? Isn't it?? I wouldn't know... Though I hope that my engine starts burning out in the near future - I beg for difference, because my sexual life with a future mate is also sinking just as much. Why should we peak at 20 when we're still concidered "youth" at this friggen age.

Besides, your wife may lose interest in you... or not have as big an appetite - happens all the time (so I hear). I wouldn't think it'd be right for a man to make his wife quit masturbation if he doesn't want sex as often as she does. Even mutual masturbation would seem to be a healthy thing if in the right context of intimacy... Isn't it?

You know, they say that a really good channel for unreleased sexual energy is a form of relaxing excersize like Yoga or something. Get your mind off that kind of release. Idle hands find mischief... so give them something else to do, something more constructive that will take your mind off sex.

You can go up to 40 days without food but only three without water. Juice Fasts are good. I've never met anyone who has done a forty day fast, a friend of mine did it for a week and it helped him immensely physically and spiritually(ie, you begin to realize what the body really needs without all the junk available today)

Just thought I would elaborate some:p
