So i recently started attending a rather large united Methodist church in my area, and I like it a lot so far and the pastor seems chill.

I have never been baptized my parents are not religious, rest of family are devout Jehovah's witnesses they would be super mad if they found I was attending churches that believe in the Trinity (it's a weird religion). Anyway I go there by myself but I'm hoping to get involved in a bible study group to make some christian friends. I've only been twice and I haven't gotten the courage to ask the pastor about baptizing me, should I email him or something like that and ask? I have a fearful thing about commitment. I'm just scared I'll eventually stop going and I wanna be dedicated and get involved in the church. I'm embarrassed that I'm 20 and everyone has been baptized as a infant and I'll be the only one doing it at a old age. Should I share my concerns with the pastor? Does the Methodist church usually do pouring or immersion?

I would drop the pastor an email or give her/him a call. While many Methodists are baptized as infants, many people are also baptized later in life. I usually have a few adult baptisms each year.

United Methodists baptize by sprinkling, pouring or immersion. If you have a preference you can talk to the pastor and see what is most common in that congregation and what you would feel comfortable with.

Here in Iowa most baptisms are by sprinkling or pouring.

Also know that baptism is a sign of God's grace in your life, not your own level of commitment or ability to be committed. God loves you and wants to give you the gift of baptism.

Family things can be hard! Many in my family aren't Methodist either. So it isn't always easy to talk about church with them.

How delightful and refreshing it is to hear that you've gotten yourself involved in a Methodist parish, welcome as a Christian!

I'd say, make a leap of faith and get yourself baptised.
Do not be afraid of committing, that feeling is not of God but of Lucifer who wants you to sit on the fence rather than becoming a child of God.

Think about it for a second, wouldn't it be better even if you drop out for a while to know you're baptised and able to pick up on the church attendance again whenever you feel ready?

Baptism gives you a home in the Christian church, please don't let worries keep you away from his loving arms.

May God bless you on this wonderful journey.
You made my heart dance out of joy when I read your op.

Go in peace.

You know it doesn't really take unless the bubbles float upward....(from my wife - a recovering So. Baptist).

I was in a congregation 20+ years ago pastored by a high school classmate of mine. He said a baptism did not take until the bubbles STOPPED coming up.
