I have thought about this from time to time. I was born with bad genes, 5 '7" and premature balding at the age of 18. It is likely if I do find a wife that she will be shorter than me and means kids would be short and if had male would have to go through life like I did. I know it is kind of silly but those affect a man so much to where it is hard to have any confidence.
Consider adoption. Be the answer to a homeless child's prayers. :)

Or, if you are blessed with a strong financial base, consider surrogacy.

My father was 5'7'' and started balding at 20. I'm six foot and the tallest in the family, near 30 with a full head of hair with no sign of it receding yet. Not that it won't, but it hasn't. Sometimes certain genes skip generations. You shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Heck, even weird things happened. My grandparents had five kids. All had dark hair, brown eyes. All of us grandchildren, dark hair, brown eyes. Except one. My uncle has blonde hair, blue eyes. The family jokes that grandma got knocked up by the mail man lol. I have hazel/green eyes, which is an oddity from either side of the family. So there are weird things in every gene selection you just can't predict. Your kid may not look like you. I've seen pictures of two black people having a white child and vice versa.

Just because you have self-esteem issues doesn't mean you're a bad person who won't find a mate or that your kids will be ugly and unsuccessful, etc like you THINK you are.

Ummm if two black people have a white child it is obviously not the husbands child. But yeah thanks I do realise that genes can be pretty random and that I may not have a child that has those negative traits.

bro, I'm also 5'7"...nobody gives me crap about my height. Most of my friends are taller than me, two of my exes were taller than me. I've learned that if a girls care that much about height, she's not worth it.

Yes but are you balding? My height actually didn't bother me too much before that started to happen.

You're wrong to assume that. It's a medically and scientifically documented case.

White Baby Shocks Black Parents: Medically Possible? - HealthPop - CBS News

And it's happened in reverse:

th

Story of someone who went through this:

"Folks, I am black and my wife is black. We have a baby who was born white–pale skin, blue eyes and all that. I hit the ceiling, accusing my wife to have had an affair with a white man. I pressured for DNA of this child. Well, it turned out, my DNA matched with the DNA of the child. Explanation, I had completed forgotten the story my mother told us that her great-great-great grand father was a white slaver on the Atlantic African coast. Along the line he had a child with one of slave African women. The gene in between the generations became dormant, and it resurfaced on my child. End of the story. I accepted it. From this it is also possible that a white man married to a white woman can have a black baby."

So in reality, you have no clue what's in your gene pool. I'm much taller than both of my parents. How does a normal height couple give birth to a giant like Shaq? You can get a wig or transplants or go completely bald. I know a lot of women who like bald guys. And if someone refuses to marry you because of that, then like Matt said, they aren't worth it.

Also many men shave their heads.

You rang? :cool1:

If it is just the baldness, that gene is passed through the woman.

I have heard that but I think its a load of my poop.

The men on my mothers side full heads of hair. my uncles aunts everyone on her side, including her.

The "skips a gen." thing is a load as well, if that WERE the case my sister would have it and I would be safe.

My father is bald, so I should be safe no matter what according to the "popular" belief of genetics of skipping and from the mothers side.

Yet, if I go without shaving my head for a few days someone comments "Did you know you are losing your hair?" In which case I respond "No, I cant lose something I ain't looking for. Until I grow my hair out I am NOT losing anything, it is simply "mother nature" helping me with a hair do I chose long before I started losing my hair.

My hair loss isn't as bad as my dads, but it is apparently noticeable. I think plain and simple God chooses how our bodys react and what becomes of them, because if genetics and the "rules" applied, I would never hear comments like that..... my sister would be (She is half sister, same mother)

Unlike the OP I wasn't losing it at 18, I simply started shaving my head at 19 and haven't had hair since.

Even though I don't think his genetics are bad enough to hinder him from having children, it is nice to see someone think about the consequences of having a kid.
Yeah, when I clicked on the thread, I was expecting some dangerous recessive gene, but thinking about it is definitely better than going ahead and having kids without any thought.

Although your frustration is understandable, neither of those traits indicate inherently bad genes. They aren't illnesses or deformities, and even people with such issues can have perfectly normal healthy children.

If you don't like the balding look, you can always shave your head or wear a wig. If your height bothers you that much, you can wear shoes with thicker soles etc. I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't learn to love yourself as you are, but that you have options that someone born without legs, for example, doesn't have.

That being said, our traits are the result of many genetic factors. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a specific baldness gene that makes people bald, but a combination of genes. Likewise for height. We carry more genes than we express. That is to say, how we look only shows one possible expression of the traits our DNA is carrying. Chances are, your ancestry includes tall, short, bald, hairy, and a slew of other things that may be passed to your kids.

Haven't you heard of hair transplant and growth treatment?

Yes I have of course, hair transplants are very expensive and they are not always successful. Plus as you lose more hair you have to keep getting them. A good transplant could easily cost 40 k. I do actually take propecia and just order some rogaine, problem is these things only slow down hairloss.. I would be bald already if not for it, but I am an easy NW 3 on the Norwood scale for hairloss if not further along so it is noticeable and have been rejected because of it.

I've noticed that men who are going bald look good shaved headed.
A friend of mine is bald. He says it's not that he's lacking hair it's just that his solar panel for the cute machine stops hair from obscuring his secret powers.

Oh, just go bald. With Breaking Bad being popular, I'd suspect the bald look to be in right now.

It'll look a lot better than having a reseeding hair line.
I have a few family members chose this, instead of showing off their bald spot.

The world better e obrace itself. Like it or not I intent to pass my genes as bad as they are.

Lol like this attitude, I need to get over it. I have had this cute Latin girl at a store I go to flirt with me each time I come in, giving me obvious signs.. but I keep holding back to ask her out and feel stupid about it. Imagine she will lose attraction for me soon seeing me as to shy or whatever,
