  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most of these games have trials you can play for free. That's the best way for you to find out. That said...

Guild Wars is best if you were there from the first game. Otherwise in order to get all the content, you need to spend about $150 straight up. If you must pick, start with Prophecies if you ever want to enjoy it. But Nightfall is the best chapter, but once you play it, you'll have a hard time going back.

Ultima Online is outdated. Don't bother.

World of Warcraft is what I'd say to go for if you want an MMORPG experience and never had any. Get it with the expansion for full content, which is still $90 I think.

Everquest is generally not considered as good as WoW.

You may also consider Eve Online although the devs were recently caught cheating in the game, so it's up to you. It's the type of game for people who want the most cutthroat PVP (that means you will NOT be protected from being scammed and grief whatsoever).

Good advice dracil.

It should deffinately be between GW and WOW. i would play the trials and see which one you like better.

I have played both and i prefer GW. But you will get a lot of posts like this, where some one likes one and not the other. If internet speed is an issue. GW is friendly to both dialup and highspeed. WOW is only highspeed and you will need to dl the demo and about 1 gig of updates to play the trial.

If you do play GW i would reccomend starting with a warrior/monk or an elementalist/monk. They are easy to play combinations and will make learning a little easier.

For Gw like dracil said. If you want a long term game, start with the first installment called (prophocis) It has a great story line. If not go with the third installment called (nightfall). If you start with nightfall, you wont want to go back to prophocis.

If you play GW long term, you can buy the other campaigns and use your same leveled characters on all three campaigns, meaning the worlds do connect. You also have map travel so it is easy to get to another town once you have been there once.

yea fantasy pretty much i dont know eve and earth and beyond doesnt interest me as much but im stuck with these (ultima online, everquest, wow, GW).

-everquest i dont know maybe because of its legendary status

-wow and GW look good but it seems like once i max my character their is nothing else to do those 2 games are really more level grind and pvp while ultima online seems more social and more replay value(build houses, fish, make stuff etc)

sorry for the double post, but i think maybe GW is my best bet because its the only free mmorpg so i can play it and see if i like the genre. A few questions on GW, what are the 3 games whats prophicies i thought it was: Guild Wars, GW Factions, and GW Nightfall. So i can play each out of order, but if i get GW I can transport my character to factions?

Guild Wars isn't an MMORPG...it's just a collection os private instances. The only interaction you have with others is in a main town or getting into a group. Otherwise, if you go into any other area alone...you will be alone...no one else is in that area...it's not a living, thriving world like an MMORPG.

Everquest 1 and 2 are fun...EQ1 is outdated graphically. (IE. it looks crappy) EQ2 looks a lot better, but it's a pretty basic grind with not alot of excitement.

WoW is probably the top current choice right now. It's VERY user friendly, very casual friendly. Great stylistic graphics, great combat system and some of the funnest dungeons you'll ever see. Plus it's much less of a grind and is actually FUN once you get past level 10.

so thats the difference between guild wars and regular monthly fee MMORPGs, yea i was wondering why i was the only person traveling in the world doing quests so basicly the game creates a private world for each character and the only interecation between people is in towns and clans or groups. I remember the when i played the free trail in WOW it was fun.. and thats why guild wars lags like crazy when i enter towns O_0

By that reasoning, Dungeons and Dragons Online isn't an MMORPG either. It's the same thing there.
