Good day

I'm a software developer by profession. I deal daily with problems that I need to solve which requires my full attention and concentration. It feels like I am focusing on worldly problems and not on Jesus.

How can I walk with Jesus on a daily basis practical?

Any advice appreciated.

Hi.
My feeling is that many people are in the same situation as you, so don't be too worried about it. Everyone has SOME time for God, even in a busy workaday schedule. So don't count your job as wasted time; count the time you can set aside for God as important--and do this regularly and faithfully. Even if it's just a short time it can be special. Then, in addition, commit yourself to living as Jesus taught--honestly, charitably, etc.--which can and should animate your working hours as well as your off-duty time, especially when you interact with others.

Sup Johan. When I began trying to get closer to God, I began by praying to Jesus that I accept him as my worldly savior and I needed him to help repent from my evildoings that has always brought mankind down. I then began by surrounding myself with better people who were to help me in my journey of being a better Christian. I started going back to church, watching services online like Joel Osteen's and Joyce Meyer's, and I started reading the bible. You don't have to go front to back, me I just read what was reflecting my life at the time and it was more enjoyable that way. You also need to work on repenting so you can feel closer and keep the ten commandments. Repenting is a daily thing so you should find more godly and decent ways to be productive with your time in serving God, your family and friends. Listen to gospel music, volunteer in your church, or even just be more kind to people. And most importantly share your faith with others. Hope this helps. Wish you the best of success, and cheers to the both of us as ever growing Christians.

Thank you all for the answers. I try to talk to God on my way to work or home when I drive, or I listen to worship music (Jesus Culture). Near to where I work, is a park. I try to go their in my lunch break. I walk in the park and sometimes talk to God. Sometimes I also pray there. But somehow I still feel like I want to get nearer to Jesus. I enjoy doing my work, but I feel like Jesus has begun to be a higher priority. I feel Iike I'm 'missing something' when I'm not near Jesus.

Colossians 3:15 (NIV) Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Johan, I understand what you're saying. Felt that way until I ran across this Scripture (as paxton25 posted) "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men." Col 3:23

So it's having our hearts towards Him no matter what we're doing.

Also, we know we can talk with Yahweh anywhere. But Matt 6:6 talks about going into our prayer closet, learned to spend uninterrupted time just praising and worshiping Him.

I have found it difficult too to reconcile the divine things with everyday things. Sometimes they coincided such as when we in the group home eat or work together, in that time I think I serve God well by being kind and a helper to the others. But sometimes the divine things also seem to clash with everyday things such as when I am sick (I suffer from schizophrenia) and don't know how to keep up in the whole ordeal the illness gives me. At such times I try to remember that I am loved and that suffering borne with Christ is not as painful as rejected suffering that nonetheless tears me down. Indeed whole books can be written about bearing sufferings patiently and without too much mourning. Many people get into that when they become sick and not every sickness responds so well to the doctors' arts. In either way I affirm that we are sheltered and thought of in Christ and I hope we all have people by our side who help us and whom we can help as well. God bless you!

Dear Johan. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells us: " The first and great Commandment is " Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: love thy neighbour as thyself." In verse 40, we are told: " on these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." God is Love, and God wants loving sons and daughters. What to do?? In Matthew 7: 7-10: we are told: " ask and you shall receive," there ask for Love and Joy, then thank God and share all Love and Joy with our neighbour: all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends. We keep asking for Love and Joy, then thank God and share all love and joy with our neighbour. God will see our loving efforts, and God will bless us.
The Bible tells us: " Repent and be Born Again," change from being selfish and und unloving to be loving and caring.
That sounds harder than what it is, Love is very catching, and people will treat us the same as we treat people,
always kind, loving and caring. We might forget and stumble, but then we ask God to forgive us, and carry on loving and caring, being friendly and sometimes a helping hand; treat others as we would love to be treated. The Holy Spirit
will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour will lead us all the way; JESUS IS THE WAY. A Christian`s weapon is love and care, with it we will overcome all enmity and wrong behaviour. Let us all follow Jesus and walk with Jesus.
I say this with love, Johan. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

I was like you a few months ago, my mind couldn't stop thinking about worldly things.

I am now in the process of eliminating worldly concern in my life, such as what to eat, how much money to make, what should I do in the future, how to solve this problem, etc.

As I eliminate them, I noticed that I actually have ALOT of time in my hands.
It gave me enough time to read several hours of the bible (over the whole day), pray, research more about the bible.

Also, that little voice in your head will start to diminish and your heart will slowly filled with Jesus and God's words.

It gets easier as you give more of your life away to God and let him just handle things for you.
I am guessing this is repenting in action.

You will determinately find a way to overcome this!

I'm in IT, and understand what you're asking. remember that God is absolutely the best SW developer there will ever be; treat Him that way when you face a technical problem that you don't know how to deal with - as you begin to see Him as your Expert and Mentor in SW development, you'll become more aware of His presence while you do your job. when you have a flash of insight, thank Him for it (because you heard it from Him in your spirit without realizing it). can't remember your new password? He does; ask Him and expect it to come to your mind. PC locking up when you test a piece of code? ask Him; He knows exactly what to do - and He wants to help you - He wants to be in fellowship with you more than you want to be in fellowship with Him; He's that good, and better than that

By reaching out and spreading the principles of JESUS CHRIST. By sharing in the spirit and NOT in the flesh nature. We strive to help, assist and love others and by so do we involve ourselves in fellowship/following> JESUS the son of GOD.

We offer ourselves up so others that are lost or blind may see the LIGHT as an example. We do not provide ground for the devil to gain a foothold and we remain steadfast so his glory can shine and not our own boasting. We are brought to the slaughter as true believers everyday and are moved by the spirit to perform that which JESUS CHRIST offers us as the way, the TRUTH, and the life.

This includes at home and abroad. We work, we toil, we live not in earthly riches, but in the abundance of grace that GOD bestows upon us all in the name of his son JESUS for GOD the heavenly father's eternal glory and praise.

Praise be to GOD the heavenly father and his son lord JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Johan,
I am an automation engineer, so I spend a fair chunk of my time banging out code. Though I can't say I have practiced it well, I think we are to see all of our work as an act toward glorifying God. I get this from 1 Cor. 10:31, "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." It's a good thing to ponder and pray on how to pull this off.

I also think a lot of us feel this way, at least at times. I also have found the Colossians verse, about doing everything as unto the Lord and not man, to be very stabilizing when I feel I should "do something", but don't know what.

Sometimes we just need to be faithful at our station. But other times the Lord wants us to make overt changes that will reposition us for greater intimacy and effectiveness. And sometimes it's hard to know the difference.

I would suggest you stay the course manifestly, and employ the Colossians verse to guide you in your work. But at the same time continue to press into the Lord in prayer. Some time off might be a good idea. Let Holy Spirit search your heart, and come to an honest "sober-minded" assessment of what the Lord wants you to do. Romans 12, which I call the mental health chapter, is great for parsing things like this. Maybe you'll find peace in what you're doing, maybe you can add some ministry activity to your present life, or maybe the Lord is looking for radical change.

That is an unbilical dualism. You are working in God's world doing exeecising your God-given capabilities. Paul never propounded a sacred/secular division.
Col 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.NIV
Col 3:22-24 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. NIV

Was Jesus less 'holy' assuming normal household responsibilities when working with his father until He was 30 years old? Doing your job well, knowing you are God's temple while doing that should be your perspective.

I'm not exactly a software developer. I'm a clerk who know some programming in VBA so I actually make VBA scripts to fully automate tasks in Microsoft Excel like building a report or summary from scratch. So what would take like hours of work for an accountant or engineer, it will only take them seconds.

How I deal with your dilemma? I feel like if I have done something beyond the call of duty, I have done something back for God and that already makes my day. I mean I am just a clerk. My duty as a clerk is just to copy, scan stuff, type stuff, deliver paper works across the building, take verbal abuse, take blame for mistakes you're not even remotely associated with, harassed in many forms.

I'm not supposed to be programming stuff and even troubleshooting computers as a clerk, it's a job for those much higher paid staff.... But I do it anyway because if I made someone happy by making their jobs heaps easier, then I believe, I have made God happy also.

If that's not enough, you can insert verses in your quotes or debugging messages, just make sure to delete them when you're done!!
