WALKING IN GOD'S WAYS AND PATHS

"Shew me Thy ways, O Lord; Teach me Thy paths." -- Psa 25:4.

"He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths." -- Mic 4:2.

THERE IS a clear difference between a Way and a Path. The one is filled with the throb and stir of the world's life; the other is comparatively lonely and unfrequented. The roll of vehicles and noisy traffic fills the one, whilst the other is, for the most part, trodden by the individual, being too narrow and quiet for the crowd. It is a great comfort that God has paths as well as ways.

God's Ways are the great principles on which He acts, the mighty thoroughfares of Creation, Providence, Revelation, Human History, and final Judgment. On these His goings-forth have ever been of old, even from everlasting. To know them is the passionate desire of the purest and loftiest natures. Moses prayed: "Shew me now Thy ways, that I may know Thee," and God graciously granted his request, for to Moses He made known His Ways, but to Israel only His Acts. There is need for us all to know God's Ways, especially in this momentous era; because only so can we enter into His rest. In the Old and New Testaments the same warning is repeated: "they shall not enter into My rest, because they have not known My ways" (Psa 95:11; Heb 3:10). We can look out calmly on this troubled world when once we have learnt to know the divine programme of gathering up all things in Christ, who is the Head; when we walk with Him who is the Way to God (Joh 14:6).

The Paths of the Lord may be taken to describe His personal dealings with the individual, who through sickness, or the care of others, or by lonely duty, is isolated from the ordinary worship of the Church, and shut away from fellowship and Christian Ministry. All such may expect and reckon upon the saving help which will come through God's private communications.

God is faithful to the soul that utterly trusts Him. He always comes on time, not a moment before, nor a moment too late. Remember that all His Paths are Mercy and Truth. Dare to believe that He is coming along a secret pathway to bring the assurance of His mercy and grace to help in this time of need.

PRAYER

Be with me, Lord, as I step out on the untrodden way of this month. I know not what it may bring of joy or sorrow, of temptation or service; but I humbly commit myself and my way to Thee. Make the best that Thou canst of me for Thy glory. AMEN.

The roll of vehicles and noisy traffic fills the one, whilst the other is, for the most part, trodden by the individual, being too narrow and quiet for the crowd. It is a great comfort that God has paths as well as ways.

The Bible frequently uses parallel statements that are two ways of expressing the same thought, so what scriptural basis do you have for distinguishing what it means to walk in God's ways or His paths?

God's Ways are the great principles on which He acts, the mighty thoroughfares of Creation, Providence, Revelation, Human History, and final Judgment. On these His goings-forth have ever been of old, even from everlasting. To know them is the passionate desire of the purest and loftiest natures. Moses prayed: "Shew me now Thy ways, that I may know Thee," and God graciously granted his request, for to Moses He made known His Ways, but to Israel only His Acts. There is need for us all to know God's Ways, especially in this momentous era; because only so can we enter into His rest. We can look out calmly on this troubled world when once we have learnt to know the divine programme of gathering up all things in Christ, who is the Head; when we walk with Him who is the Way to God (Joh 14:6).

God's way is he ways in which He expresses aspects of His nature (2 Samuel 22:21-37), such as righteousness and justice (Genesis 18:19). In Exodus 33:13, Moses wanted God to be gracious to him by teaching him His way that he might know Him an Israel too, and there are many verses that show that God taught how to walk in His way through His law, such as Deuteronomy 10:12-13, Joshua 22:5, 1 Kings 2:1-3, Isaiah 2:2-3, Psalms 103:7, and Psalms 119:1-3. In Matthew 19:17, Jesus said that he would tell those who are workers of lawlessness to depart from him because he never knew them, so the goal of the law is to teach us how to know God and Jesus through experiencing aspects of His nature, which is eternal life (John 17:3). God's law is the way, the truth (Psalms 119:142), and the life, and the way to know the Father, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and the way to know the Father (John 14:6-7), God's law is God's word and Jesus is God's word made flesh.

All points down to this..

Mat 7:13 The Sermon on the Mount: The Narrow Gate
¶ “Enter through the narrow gate, because broad is the gate and spacious is the road that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it,
Mat 7:14 because narrow [Some manuscripts have “how narrow”] is the gate and constricted is the road that leads to life, and there are few who find it!

Matthew 7:14
1) "Because strait is the gate," (hoti stene he pule) "Because strait (restricted is) the gate;" The passage door-way is one that has Divinely disclosed restrictions in choice of service and conduct, morally, ethically, and religiously, in spiritual exercise, Joh_14:6; Act_4:12; Luk_9:23; 1Jn_2:15-17.
2) "And narrow is the way," (kai tethlimmene he hodos) "And made or existing narrow or restricted is the way," the way of Christ, contrasted with that of Moses, the law, etc., Jesus came to and did fulfill the law and the prophets, raised the Divine standards required in them, to a higher plane, as standards of behavior for which they should strive, Mat_5:17; Gal_5:14.
3) "Which leadeth unto life," (he apagousa eis ten zoen) "Which is leading away into life," life eternal, more abundant life, that grants, not merely an entrance, but an "abundant entrance" into glory, Joh_10:10; 2Pe_1:11.

4)"And few there be that find it." (kai oligoi eisin hoi keuriskontes auten) "And few are the ones who are finding it," seeking or searching to pursue the restricted way, of salvation in Christ, and the greatest degree of glory which is given to God by and through Him and the church which He purchased with His own blood, Act_20:28; Eph_3:21. The two ways may be described as follows:
1) The strait gate, narrow way through which men are called to glory is by a) Salvation in and through Jesus only, Joh_10:9-10; Joh_14:6; Act_4:12; Joh_8:24. b) The way of behavior through which one passes to the abundant and more abundant life is through the doctrinal, moral, and ethical standards one is called to embrace and follow in life through His church, Mat_5:13-15; Act_20:28; Eph_3:21.
2) The broad way is that of rebellion against God, as each does as he chooses, lives as he pleases, does in humanism, "his own thing"; Pro_14:12; Joh_8:24.

God bless

Travel co: Path ab: ?: The pictograph is a picture of the head of a man, the h is a picture of wall that separates the inside from the outside. Combined these mean "man outside". The responsibilities of the nomad outside of the tent include the feeding, watering and caring for the livestock. Livestock are healthier and more productive when on a routine, therefore the man follows a routine or "a prescribed path" each day when caring for his livestock.
