CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We're writing our own, and we're having other words than "with this ring I thee wed" when we put the rings on. You see we're thinking our rings will have the Claddagh on it, and there is a saying that goes with the Claddagh that we will do instead.
We have already sworn traditional wedding vows in front of a minister and a few friends. We will do it again when we finally do have an official wedding.

I REALLY want to use the words "Today I marry my best friend" ut other than that, traditional... incleuding cherish (and maybe adore) cos i love the words so much.

The vow we're probably using is:
"By the power that Christ brought from heaven, mayst thou love me. As the sun follows its course, mayst thou follow me. As light to the eye, as bread to the hungry, as joy to the heart, May thy presence be with me, Oh one that I love, 'til death comes to part us asunder."
And then when we put on the rings we will say, "With these hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love."
This goes with the claddagh rings.
This ring also has the trinity knotwork on each side, to represent God's role in our marriage.

I've been looking around on web sites and in Christian wedding books to try to decide on the vows but more than likely we will stick with the traditional, although my fiancee really doesn't want the word 'obey' mentioned.

My fiance' and I are very traditional. We both want the world "obey" in our vows. Our wedding day wont' just be a ceremony uniting us, it'll be a kind of religious ceremony as well. This is very important to us..

We are using pretty much the traditional ones, but not obey, because though we agree with the meaning it had, the meaning others would assume it to have is degrogitry.

We want traditional vows but after seeing Revenwyn's post I'm leaning towards Irish vows and wedding bands to represent my heritage.

My fiance and I are doing traditional vows. I could never write my own and stand up in front of everyone and say them. I'm going to be nervous enough anyway. PLus something that personal I'd want to share with only my F.
