An interesting statistic in the 2024 US election was voting polarization based on education level which was even greater than gender (Women 57% Democrat, 42% Republican, Men 46% Democrat, 53% Republican).

Education Level
Democratic Support
Republican Support
Key Observations
College Degree
(Bachelor’s or Higher)
61%
37%
Strong Democratic support, especially among postgraduate degree holders
EL PAÍS English
Pew Research Center
No College Degree
33%
63%
Predominantly Republican support, especially among White voters without a degree

So why the divide, an explanation given is that educated voters tended to on prioritize issues like climate change, diversity, social equality, and international cooperation and found Trump’s often polarizing language on social media and in campaign rallies off-putting.

I would say "indoctrinated" as opposed to "educated" when you consider their priorities.

Only shows how far the education has fallen. Look at what they teach at universities. There is 64 'genders', woman is someone who identifies as a woman, facts don't matter, what matters is how we feel. It's ok to mutilate the children. Fetus are not human beings as democrats believe. etc.

Not to mention half the college degrees are completely useless.

I am very happy the democrats lost. Not happy about Trump win, wish it was someone else, but rather him than democrats

Just look at the mess all of this liberal “intelligence “ has gotten us into these past four years.

My best friend at NYU was a tall blonde girl from a ranch in Wyoming state.

I learned so much from her, and from several visits to the family ranch!

What a person must know to be a rancher is post grad work
in multiple fields!

I’d not say someone with an arts degree from state u is
” better / more” educated than a farmer or plumber who
I would say has a far better grasp of
reality and good sense.

The democrats have their hearts in the right
place, in some ways. “ DEI” and intrrnstional
cooperation, say. I doubt many ranvhers oppose
suvh. The environment.

But watching from here in Hong Kong, the self righteous
way that the democrats approach things
-billions on non existent charging stations won’t cool the earth-
and the border policy don’t look remotely the way to deal with issues.

id have voted against them too.

The Democrats handed the working class to the Republicans as a free gift. It will be interesting to see what the Republicans do with it.
My impression is they are pretty much feckless

This pretty much represents a U-turn from 50 years ago, although I think the division now is probably more extreme. Democrats were joe six-pack union worker out of high school. Republicans were Bill Buckley.

And yet, at the top of the GOP, of course, you still have the moneyed educated elites. President billionaire and his Yale Law veep.

I wonder how the net worth of Trump's Second cabinet will compare to the first go-round.

Forbes, comparing Trump and Biden cabinets:

So why the divide

David Brooks (PBS NewsHour commentator and NY Times columnist) has been talking about this for a while. His theory is that the economic shift over the last few decades is a big factor. Many jobs that don't require a college degree have been automated or shipped overseas or both, while jobs requiring a college degree have been relatively untouched. If you have a high-school-level education, and there aren't any jobs that let you do satisfying work and support your family, and if this goes on long enough and it doesn't get any better, maybe you get mad and want to smash the whole system. And then here comes Donald Trump, who also talks about smashing the system.

It's not the whole answer. There are culture wars issues in play (as others in this thread have mentioned), and other factors, but I think Brooks has a good point.

Maybe because some have more common sense than the educated. Schools may think it all right to disrupt the civil liberties of others or the destruction of property but you have to wonder what the kids are being educated on. I hope STEM, China has a robust system.

An educated person is more likely to accept psychological definitions of identity than biological ones. They are more likely to accept unnatural relationships rather than natural ones.

An uneducated person is more likely to have read their bible today rather than the newspaper or the latest liberal speculations on this or that. That said these honest down-to-earth worker types have also accepted a proven liar as their next president. They accept the big lie that Trump was cheated of the last election by some deep-state conspiracy and probably believe that the Lizard people dominate the Democrats and are sacrificing kidnapped white republican children to Satan.

This is the kind of survey that begs the question; does anybody on that side of the Atlantic have any kind of handle on truth?

Don't be shy tell us how upset you are about Trump winning a majority of American votes. I think your focus should be on your government and your economic woes unless it was Trump's fault.

Some posters have commented on the malaise of your education system producing indoctrinated lower skilled individuals.
You can't infer this from the figures as people have obtained their qualifications over a broad time span, unless the malaise goes back decades.
Since I am not a citizen of your country and have not been through your college education system I will not make any comments on it.

If the data is broken down to college educated vs non college educated republicans there are some interesting areas of polarization particularly on cultural issues.

Category
College Educated Republicans
Non College Educated Republicans
Economic Concerns
48% cited inflation and economic stability as top priorities.
55% cited inflation, with strong emphasis on local job protection.
Cultural Issues
38% prioritized traditional values (e.g., family, religion).
61% prioritized strong traditional values.
Climate Policy
31% supported moderate environmental policies.
15% placed low priority on climate issues.
Immigration
42% supported balanced immigration reform.
64% favored strict immigration control.
Foreign Policy
36% favored international cooperation.
54% prioritized a more isolationist, American-focused policy.

This one genuinely puzzles me, Evangelicals are the least educated group when it comes to college degrees and are a strong supporter base for the GOP, yet Trump is not exactly a shining example of strong traditional values.
It is either the case of "the enemy (Trump) of my enemy (Democrats) is my friend" or a denial of Trump's record.

Maybe it's because they were warned of wolves in sheeps' clothing rather than a wolf in a golden penthouse throneroom.

Honestly I'm not convinced that conservatives are interested in learning new things. They characterize a change of opinion as "flipflopping" as opposed to "learning and growing"; they don't know what's taught in universities and frankly are not interested anyways.

Conservatives constantly characterize overly intelligent people as elitist when, if tou spend time around academics they are NOT elitist. Strangely academics also have 0 control over our society. And then I never really see conservative pan economic eletists qith the same relish despite the far more profound impact they have on our lives.

Kick them in the teeth and then, by next election, offer then 10% off on new veneers.

Republicans are antithetical to worker advancement.

A politician whose values are determined by what they believe will get them the most votes is a "flip flopper".

But you have 0 way to ascertain beyond your own prejudices, what another person's motivation would be.
