  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Although it's a bit early for the American elections, there is a Canadian election upcoming (if the Liberals are brave enough to call one after what we've just learned about their spending habits), and I thought I'd post this link here. I suppose it could go into Politics instead, but it is specifically directed at Catholics.

It has some good information for any Catholic who is serious about making the right choice come election day, whether they be Canadian or American. For our American brethren, this is a good primer for what to expect in a few months when the candidates are all declared.

I don't think that the voter's guide should apply to just the presidential candidates. I think it should apply to local level as well.

Michelle

You are correct, Michelle. The voter's guide doesn't only discuss the presidential election, it's referring to candidates at all levels. Also, I mentioned it in context of Canadian voters; we won't be voting for Bush. :) Up here the system is basically that we elect members of Parliament (just as you vote for the House of Representatives), and the leader of the party with the most seats is Prime Minister. The equivalent for you 'Mericans would be if the Democrats won the most seats in the House and Nancy Pelosi became President. (Except our Democrats, i.e. Liberal Party, aren't as competent and honest as she is.)
