Projecting an image is different than perceiving an image. Like an apparition of a ghost, or Jesus.

Jesus claims He will reveal Himself to us (John 14:21) and come into and sup with us (Rev 3:20). A Christian is supposed to have an spiritual experience that is not contrived.

A problem lies in the area of unconscious projection of an inner desire. One needs to be able to distinguish between what is contrived and what is an actual spiritual experience.

Our perceptions are distorted by everything but in the context of so called “spiritual revelations” I would say that the way we perceive is greatly influenced by deep rooted beliefs and fear. So with that kind of pressure your mind will adapt to accommodate your perceptions.
