  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

One of the things that supports me in walking the path of Faith are reminders of it throughout the day. Small tokens, images, representations that fill me with a sense of blessing and reminder.

I was wondering how each of you surrounds themselves with symbols of Faith at home or elsewhere.
At my house, things start in the living room, at your right side on the half wall between kitchen and living room, there's a small statue of the Sainted Family. Against the wall, there is a simple wooden cross without decorations, on a small floorstand there is an Icon of the blessed virgin, and against the wall, there is a large 'hunger cloth' like those that are hung in the churches here with Lent, with christ in the center and the fruits of hope and His works as well as the suffering on earth displayed. (it's a big livingroom. *L*)

In my mothers room, there's a simple small wooden cross besides her bed, and in my study I have a chaplet rosary on my desk, and next to the door a statue of the Virgin Mary in white. It was a gift from the pastor of my previous parrish in gratitude for the 8 years of confirmation, and I cherrish it very much. It's not precious at all in the wordly sense, and it's damaged at the back, but it has such a humble sweetness about it that it's a wonderful reminder.

Two more reminders I carry with me. One is as simple as my keychain which has the image of a white statue of a Father carrying a child and the inscription: 'day after day He carries us', and the small silver ring at my finger: a thin band, slightly broadening in a heart that is worked out, and in which there's a tiny raised cross. I wear it as a reminder that my Faith is in my heart, and my heart is in my faith. That Love is the most important commandment.

If I ennumerate it like that, it seems a lot that I surround myself with, so I'ld be interested to hear what others do and why.

We have a crucifix in every room, a holy water font by one of our exterior doors, and Jesus, angels and Ss. Thomas and Cecilia (our patrons) statues in our bedroom. I am still working on my wife to put a big picture of our Blessed Mother above the fireplace mantle :)

oh and I try to carry a rosary with me everywhere I go and I wear a crucifix over my shirt when I am not at work.

Our house is a little over the top. There is not a single place where you can sit and not see some image reminding you of Jesus, His Holy Family , or His SAints.

One of my favorites is a little crucifix that sits on the top of the TV-- kind of a reminder to only watch things which would not offend.

On my person- I always have my rosary in my pocket. And I wear a scapular and a Miraculous Medal.

We are thinking about doing the Enthronement in the Home of the Sacred HEart. Has anybody else done that??

In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Shannon
