Of course not, but it muffles the singing. And no one's preventing you from using a book or a large print words folder if you want to.

There's a noticeable increase in volume when 100 Methodists are belting out "And Can it be?" with their heads up.

Yeah, and a noticeable decrease in the number of voices when it is a new p/w song that only 5 people in the choir know and there is no printed music!!

the non-denom I attend is a small church, but they seem to think they need all the bells and whistles. Projected hymn lyrics and ALL Bible readings, video clips during the sermon and (most dreaded of all) recorded tracks for vocalists to sing to. It is kinda funny to be sitting in the congregation in this little church, your friend gets up to sing and suddenly they are backed up by an unseen vocal group, the Tower of Power horns and a full string section. What's worse is that 2 weeks later I get up to sing with just me, a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer - and we sounded better!!!

Icons are theology in color. St. Basil's in Moscow is amazing but every Orthodox church I've been to is very nice.

And this is the church in Albion.

One thing about the Liturgy, it truly is a multi-sensory experience.

If I was called to be a Preacher.....my visual aids would be as follows.

I would take down the current Cross off the Wall, and introduce a simulated mound of Earth out from the wall, and then have a new much larger Cross installed, with Blood painted and smeared onto those sections of the Cross where his hands and feet where nailed.

The Pulpit would be slightly to one side of the Cross, and the Pulpit would be cone shaped and on the Front of the Pulpit would be a carved depiction of the Stone rolled back to one side of the empty tomb.

My reason being that lots of people attend Church, but their Focus is often drawn away as to why they are there.

The Cross and what happened at the Cross should never blend in with the back ground so that it goes un noticed.

That Cross should be the focus of everybody who walks in the door.

Peace

If it's a class setting, like a Sunday school class or a catechism class, I don't see anything wrong with using whatever media might be appropriate for teaching.

In the church service though, I would have a real problem with big screens and other technology that could distract from the reverent attitude we should take while worshiping before the throne of Almighty God.

In my mind anyway, electronic media cheapens the worship experience.
I imagine someone said something similar the first time a codex was opened to read from instead of a scroll.
