Cool! I'll have to check my copy of Grout to see whether it's in there. (It's been a long time; can't remember whether we were taught that one or not. I do recall two myths from hymnology class, though - that Martin Luther and Charles Wesley used popular or drinking tunes with their hymns so that the people would have familiar tunes to sing. Turned out to be completely false. Both men were stringent in their morals and wouldn't have wanted any association between the pub and their hymns, and Luther even rewrote one of his hymn-tunes when he heard that it had become popular and was being used as a dance.)
