Anyone know what's up with this technology? I made a post yesterday which included the word "Walmart". After I submitted the post I looked at it and the name was underlined, and was in fact a link to Walmart.com. That's funny, I didn't make a link there, so I tried to edit it and there is no HTML tag visible, so I can't remove it. The pop-up hypertext over the link says "You're Welcome - From Viglink" or something like that. I'd never heard of them before.

How can they do this, and how can this be ethical? What if I wanted to denounce an organization - can they have it arranged where my denouncement links to their propaganda?

I'm curious about how the technology is implemented though. Does a website have to agree to allow this to be done?

I'm not sure, but I recall seeing it happen on another website I visited so I remembered the way to cancel it.

I think they (Walmart, et.al.) subscribe to it.

I got rid of it via my block site add-on.

If you have it, you can block {http://cdn.viglink.com}, and it won't come up anymore.
