Most people are shocked, amazed, and quite complimentary. My mom brags to her friends about it!
Some people just flat out don't believe me and I know that can be annoying. If they continue with more questions, I simply say that my father was an alcoholic and I have seen the negative effects of it. But nearly everyone respects my decision.
Considering the background you gave earlier I think your not drinkig a wise decision. My mom would never brag about one oof her kids not drinking. She does not ding at all, she simply does not like the sutff. She would assume any of us who did not drink somply had her taste genes. Hardly something worth bragging about.
In your case it may be a bit different, it seems in a sense you have beaten the family cures. Good for you.
When I was in college I was in a fraternity where we often drank a lot. But it was in one subtle way different from most such groups. There was never peer preasure to drink or partake in other things. Available yes, take or pass as you see fit. I was most fortunate to be part of such a group.
