What is the practical difference?

Not when the point is to understand biological phenomena, off course.

Give me an example of a "problem" that was solved by christianity and in a better way then science could have done it or has done it.
I would say, yes.
First, because we'll learn a lot about the solar system. Things we can't learn from down here. Even things about our own planet.
Second, maybe you should review all the technology and knowledge that was made possible by space travel. You might be surprised.
But in any case.... what does that have to do with anything?

It's like the concept of design. Science says there is no purposeful design in nature. This doesn't make sense to me as I see design all over the place; like birds wings are designed not only to fly 'straight and level' but to do some pretty complicated aerial acrobatics as well.
I'm guessing you had a working belief.
Like my Dad used to tell us kids, "You can go out and play after you finish your work."
Also note that I didn't say Christianity solves problems. It is the practice of Christianity that solves problems. Few 'Christians' practice Christianity.

That's easy. Millions of Christians are morally bound to not do evil behaviors. No preventative scientific method is better at doing this. This represent the largest, albeit passive, benefit to society one can imagine.
I believe we have more important needs here on earth. When we address them then we can go play among the stars.
