ok I have a question for christians.

Do you consider video games evil? Im not talking about the happy adventure video games.

Do you think it is unchristian to play games such as doom, diablo, or dungeons and dragons?

Do you think it is unchristian to play the games solely for entertainment without the belief that any of the images are correct or morally right.

I personally have a bad problem with video games, its more like an obsession. I want to be a true christian but im afraid that playing these games isnt right and i want to hear the input of other dedicated christians.

Thank you

We have had this disscussion in other treads. If you can keep what happens in the game in the context of the game then I believe they're fine. I play Zalda, Halo, Time Splitters and other violent games and It hasnt hurt me any:)

Well mate, if you have a bad problem with it, then it probably isn't good for you.
All things in moderation.
"All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient."
Anything can be bad for us, especially in excess, but that doesn't mean that it is always bad for everyone by default.

Also "dungeons and dragons?"
I've found this at a lot of Christian boards - people saying "dungeons and dragons" is wrong yet...DnD is more or less a rule set, with different worlds and styles and themes.

If you are convicted by God not to play them...or even certain ones then don't. Sometimes however just in our hearts we know if the game is good for us or not. And it's our choice. The games sometimes are not the game itself, but the player...how is it effecting your mind, are you mimicing mortal kombat moves? are you starting to drive like the guys from the GTA series? I can say that i was an addict at one time....I probably still could be to if I was given the chance. God directly told me to get rid of certain games because I was vegging out on them and getting ticked off when something wouldnt go my way. I see the issues with games are that they can take too much time away from our lives in which could be used for God with prayer or bible reading...

Well, let's see what the ten commandments have to say...

1. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

Probably can't break this one, unless you suddenly, for some bizarre reason, decide to worship a God or deity involved in the plot of the game.

2. "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,"

I never knew what this commandment meant. Maybe someone can PM me and clarify it.

3. "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain;"

Some video games have swear words. Of course, it wasn't YOU that said these words, but you DID turn the game on.

You might also be like me, where you might get really angry and yell out a bunch of F bombs and whatnot when you lose or something.

4. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy."

This one has always been a little vague to me. How do you "keep it holy"? By not playing video games? :scratch:

5. "Honor thy father and thy mother:"

A lot of kids who are playing video games could easily break this one. When I was a kid, and my mom said "bed time" while I was playing a video game, I'd be like "NO!"

6. "Thou shalt not kill."

I dunno. Is shooting at computerized sprites killing?

7. "Thou shalt not commit adultery"

I really don't see what video games might have to do with this one...

8. "Thou shalt not steal."

Simple. Don't steal a video game.

9. "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

Sometimes you lie in a video game, but I wonder if those computerized sprites that you lie to are

10. "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, nor anything that is thy neighbor's."

I never knew how someone can really follow this commandment, so I'm just going to leave it blank.

* * *

Anyways, I really could care less what God thinks about me playing video games. I'm an agnostic, and I always question the biblical set of moral principles (Hell and stuff). But this subject interests me, anyways.

And on another note, if video games are bad, you might as well throw out television, board games, toys, and whatever else as well.

A couple of items to consider. You've probably seen these before but--

Ps 101:3-4

3 I will set nothing wicked before my eyes;
I hate the work of those who fall away;
It shall not cling to me.
4 A perverse heart shall depart from me;
I will not know wickedness.

Phil 4:8

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.

no i dont. do you consider tv evil?

no

I know there incorrect. but this is life, things happen in my average life that are far more horrible than these mere images.

I personally have a bad problem with video games, its more like an obsession. I want to be a true christian but im afraid that playing these games isnt right and i want to hear the input of other dedicated christians.

I think the most important thing to do would be to pray about it. and do whats right for you. do you ocationally watch horror or action movies? do you think they are evil? but i dont think its wrong to shoot or decapitate a ninja or alien or person in a video game. its not real, but we need to be carfull. i think everyone has good points on the subject, but this is how i feel about it:

I dont see a problem, and i dont feel that there is one. but be carfull. but, if they wanted me to summon satan, and sclice my hands (in a video game) the game is going back. I have limits, but i haven't crossed them yet.
