  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

sorry i meant viagra is addictive, not sex....

though i think most things are addictive in one way or another, just some things are chemically addictive while others aren't....

If your intent was to make the word "addictive" mean almost nothing, then hurray! You win!

I love this funny little christian myth about sex and pornography addiction. Is it odd that I've only ever heard christians talk about it, rather than, I dunno, doctors and psychologists?

There are doctors and psychologists who deal with psychological addictions to behavioural ticks and compulsions, including sexual addiction. Yes, some denominations seem intent on making it a much bigger problem than it is, but that doesn't mean it does not exist.

Also, a person can get mentally (even when there is no physical addiction present) to most any substance, including viagra. It's probably pretty rare if it happens, but it could.

As for pornography... yes, again, some religious sects/denominations/orders do exagerate the "problem of pornography". For most, it's not really a big problem, just a naughty little distraction.

But there are people who get addicted to images, texts, and repetitive behaviours and movements. In mild forms, they are bad habits; in more severe forms, they are addictions. And just as a minority of people are addicted to pulling out their hair, eating or not eating or eating in certain rituals only (each of these is an illness in their own right) some have an illness that causes them to be "addicted" to certain sexual acts/behaviours/repetive movements.

In other words, some religious sects harp on it way too much. But there are real problems, dealt with by medical professionals, just a much smaller scale than many religious figures would have us believe.

And for those who have a healthy sexual appetite but have trouble with the physical aspect, there's Viagra.

This is very well-said. Such things do exist, but they are not a terrible risk to most people, and to be honest I suspect that only people with problems already are likely to get addicted to sex or to pornography.

Everything is risky. Some things are much riskier than others, and people often have a disproportionate sense of risk and probability. I find it weird that certain churches warn about SEX ADDICTION and PORN ADDICTION when they could be warning about BEING KILLED WHILE DRIVING TO CHURCH, for example.

That these people from an obsession or a neurosis is undeniable. But I think it's a mistake to call it an addiction, suggesting that the objects themselves are addictive. I wouldn't be splitting hairs, but this is routinely a quality attributed to pornography by under-educated preachers trying to get some poor fool to do what they say.

Actually it was originally intended to treat high blood pressure. And it is used for pulmonary hypertension, which is a rarer type of high blood pressure just involving the lungs. It's also effective for preventing and treating altitude sickness.

The most sinful thing about it IMO is the retail price of about 10 bucks a pill.

That will teach me about trying to post things by memory. (Seems to be getting worse every year) ;)
