Very quick question

Hi everyone! I have a very quick question for y'all that really isn't related much to religion itself but it is actually about the icons in my profile. I have recently decided that I do want to become a member of a Conservative Mennonite church and I am changing my icon to represent that I have found a path now. Since there is none for "Mennonite", is it accurate to put "Baptist" or would it be mroe proper to simply say "Protestant". It used to just be there as Christian because I wasn't even sure then if I was going to go down the Protestant or Roman Catholic path. Now that I have decided, I think I should change it to be a bit more specific. Thanks for your help. God bless you all.
In Christ,
~Grace~

I think it would be most accurate to simply put Christian, because anabaptists were technically pacifist and not prots.

If you want others to know your Minnonite, then change the title that goes by your avatar.

Good opportunity to point out a few things:

As was noted, the Anabaptists were technically not "Protestants." They were always separate from Rome. They did not, therefore, have to leave the Roman church as many who came out of the Reformation.

Some who came out of the RCC during the Reformation didn't get too far away in some respects. As I mentioned in another thread, the Lutherans (to this day) hold to a "confession" which condemns Anabaptists.

"Anabaptism" (the act and belief system) was condemned and punishable in Calvin's Geneva.

"Protestant" is a word created by Rome. It helps perpetuate the error that there was somehow one, united church until 1517 and that all "Protestant" churches were born then. A reading of history from then through the early 20th Century puts that nonsense out to pasture.

The Anabaptist story goes back to the first century. First, they were persecuted by the Roman Empire, then they were persecuted without mercy when the ritualistic, paganized church of the Roman empire consolidated power.

Today, there are still Christians who believe that there was one happy church (the Eastern schism notwithstanding) until a little misunderstanding in 1517. It is purely revisonist history. The "reformers" were just more organized and their "revolution" was as much political as it was religious.

I am thankful to a degree to men like Luther for some of the residual results of the Reformation (and they certainly were brave), but they are also the source of much of the residue of RCism left in the western churches (such as the condemnation of Anabaptists).

I recommend "The Pilgrim Church" by E.H. Broadbent. It is an excellent history of the true church, the Body of Christ, as it was lived by individuals from the time of Christ. You should also read the writings of Menno.

There is a help forum found at the top of the homepage. It may be that the title feature was disabled when you tried it--due to Erwins repairs.
