Age: 15
Height: 5'
Weight: just under 100 lbs
Hair: long and black, coming down over her shoulders, and partly obscuring her face.
Eyes: An odd shade of brown. Sometimes they almost appear to be red, but only she is in great pain or misery.
Skin: Veronika is quite pale, but her skin is somehow dark at the same time. Like a gray, almost. Darker than normal white without being tan in any way.
Build: short and petite, but with a long and drawn face. Her long arms end in bony and thin hands, with long and nimble fingers. She is not very strong, but can perform the tasks around the orphanage given to her by the owner.
History: She arrived at the orphanage as a newborn baby, supposedly discovered by Roberta, the owner. Her birth documents say that she was an illegitimate child from somewhere in Eastern Europe. She was raised with the other orphans, and often treated just as poorly by the cruel "Aunt Roberta". While an aunt to two of the orphans, she was nothing more than a caretaker to the rest of the children... save for Veronika. Veronika's true heritage is unknown to all but Roberta and Veronika's father. Roberta is indeed Veronika's mother, and she was impregnated by the shadowy essence of the being she worshipped, which hailed from another world. Veronika is unaware of this, however, and has lived as little more than a quiet, mouse-like orphan all her days. She works hard when given an order from the caretaker, whom she has always felt a strange connection to, alongside the fear of her cruelty, and spends most of her time to herself.
Personality: Veronika is incredibly shy, and does not normally like to go outside. For some reason, the sun makes her incredibly uncomfortable. Although she does not know, it is due to the shadows and darkness through which she was fathered. She is easily frightened, and does not normally stand up for herself when trodden upon. She spends most of her free time alone, stewing, drawing, or re-reading any books in the orphanage. She holds grudges for long periods of time, but is too passive to act upon them. For 15 years, she has let herself slip into pent up anger and sorrow, but she still gladly accepts the rare displays of kindness from the other orphans.
Family:
Mother: Roberta(Nic, whats her last name again?)
Father: Ishbaneer Shatten
Cousins: Priam and Pandora Viaton

Age: 16
Weight: 126 lbs
Height: 5'5''
History leading to changes: Veronika's cousins, Priam and Pandora Viaton, discovered that they had the power to transport themselves and anyone in physical contact with them to a sort of alternate fantasy world. They were direct descendents of a line that was destined to combat an evil being in this alternate world. His name was Ishbaneer Shatten, and he was slowly but surely corrupting this new world with his evil essence. The shadows that enveloped his mostly elegant and perfect form(the mostly is because the flesh on his hands and his stomach were rotten away, exposing bone and a somewhat hollow interior) were capable of spreading his taint into any living thing they engulfed, and so he darkened the land wherever he went, and turned unwilling creatures into his terrible, mindless, corrupted servants.
Veronika's mother and the twins' aunt, Roberta Whipstaff, was one of the few willing servants that Ishbaneer employed. She was used to carry and birth Ishbaneer's child, whom he commanded Roberta to name Veronika Finsternis, for Finsternis was a word that meant Darkness, and Veronika was derived from Victory. Veronika would bring victory to the dark forces that Ishbaneer commanded, and he hoped she would also aid him in defeating the descendents of his long-hated enemies. When she finally came to his world with her cousins, Ishbaneer came to his daughter while she was alone, and told her about her heritage. While at first she was unwilling to believe it, her cousins' happiness filled her with bitter envy, and the fact that they were preferred by all of her old friends drove her to hatred and anger. These feelings had festered in Ishbaneer's black heart for milennia, and he appealed to her with them, and offered her the same love that he desired from her. Ishbaneer finally gained a daughter, and Veronika got a father who loved her, just because she was his.
Veronika rose to power as Ishbaneer's greatest servant. She let the same dark shadows that fathered her envelope her, as Ishbaneer did to his servants, and Veronika was reborn as a physically stronger, more beautiful, and far, far more dangerous princess of shadow.
Appearance: Veronika does not hide her face in her hair as much as she used to. While she is still introverted, she has gained much pride and confidence through her ascencion to power, and she carries herself as such. Her figure filled out from that of a waifish, half-starved orphan to that of a powerful, well-bred, perfect image of dark beauty. From her back grew a pair of bony growths, just over the shoulderblades, from which sprung a pair of wings, made entirely of the same shadowy matter that was like a cloak to Ishbaneer. Her form is more graceful and powerful, but she has been humbled as of late.
Present: Alas, as is common in such stories, good triumphed over evil. Ishbaneer, at long last, was cast down from his cold, shadowy throne. Veronika surrendered to her cousins and friends, who despite Veronika's bitterness, agreed to send her back to our world instead of just killing her. She loses much of her power while she is in the real world, and is unable to corrupt a slave like her father, but she kept her wings. While not as close to being of superhuman strength, Veronika is still strong and attractive for her age. She hides her wings well, and though she still thinks of herself as fallen royalty, she has lost much of the evil that Ishbaneer filled her heart with when he transformed her. This does not change her bitterness towards her cousins or old friends at the orphanage. Her plight was noticed by the School for the Gifted, and so she was invited to come and attend. The institution hoped that the training could rehabilitate her as a part of society.
