Oh my. It seems Hindus got their own flavor of creationism. And it it every bit as crazy as the Christian equivalent, if not more so. (As far as I'm aware, even the most stalwart YECs do not believe that the sun is in fact a chariot, or that geocentrism is correct.)

The Vedic Creation Myths(of which there are many competing myth's are usually taken with great symbolic sub-layers and are usually also mashed in with very deep and layerd theology.

This sort of belief is held by almost no one, at least no one that I know of. What we do commonly have in the way of pseudoscience is astrology. Almost everyone in India subscribes to Jyotish, or Hindu astrology, in some form or another. Astrologers are consulted before making all kinds of life decisions. I'm probably in the vast minority, largely due to the cognitive dissonance that would be required to simultaneously be an astronomer and believe in astrology.

Oh, I know. I hardly suggested that such literalists/creationists are common. But whoever made this video obviously took (this version of) the Vedic creation myths literally. And it's hilarious.

WonderBeat, how literally do you take your video in depicting reality?

eudaimonia,

Mark

No one takes it literally, I personally know the guy who made the Video itself, even he doesn't take it literally.

I am not quite sure. I believe there are various levels to reality, and this cosmology depicts only one. Do I believe the Sun is a literal chariot? Well, on this given plane which we know by modern science, I believe it is a burning sphere of nuclear charged gas. On another plane of reality, it could very well be a personality. Yes, he is Surya: a person.
