  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Can somebody explain why they use the churches money to search for aliens? Very contradictive to say the least.

Then again Jesus spoke of such men:

"Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely."

The pope; prayer vigil.

Peace.

I have to admit, this thread is one of the more creative ones. Can't say I've ever seen aliens used as a way to link Catholicism to the Pharisees. Or, maybe we're all just out of the usual cannon fodder. I'm not quite sure which.

Also, "the Catholic Church supports science therefore they are Evil™" is a terrible train of thought.

And arrogance is not cool.

And neither are asinine, illogical arguments.

But to answer your question, searching for life beyond us renders ones faith useless. As Christians we believe we are made in Gods image, and that Christ died for US. Don't you see what a big contradiction it is for a believer?

Why would your faith be shattered if aliens were discovered? What do aliens have to do with humanity? The universe is huge. By probability alone, we can't be the only ones in it.

Also, the Vatican observatory is actually an observatory. It's a legitimate astronomical institution. They don't use it to "search for aliens."

The pope does nothing for Christ. He's living in luxury while people around the world are being persucuted. We are supposed to become like Christ. Jesus never lived in fancy buildings.

The pope has an exhausting daily schedule - the kind that makes your life and mine seem indulgent. After all, we have the luxury of being here gossipping about the pope for hours at a time, but the pope is an overworked servant of the servants of God. How do you and I compare?

Is your goal in this thread to just make as many unsupported assertions as possible?

Kewl - another Catholic bashing thread. Jesus also said something about being glad to be persecuted.....so persecute away, non-Catholics. It makes my day.

I bet the pope is an alien himself. ;)

from what I understand, the Pope lives in an apartment, a good size apartment
and a summer home in Castle Gandolfo, now the summer home is very very nice, but his normal living quarters are not as fancy as you might think

I agree with you 100%. I think the pope is going to be the human that pushes the "grand deception" forward into mainstream christianity, which in my opinion will be the false teachings that we were created by alien beings.

I believe that is the grand deception that is spoken about in the bible were many will be deceived and fall away.

Wow, I have honestly never heard that before. Of course, it is totally ignoring the fact that the Church does and has always taught the man was created by God - it is a dogmatic and unchangeable teaching of the Church, and no Pope can change that, even if for some unknown reason he wanted to.

Just goes to show that you always hear something new here in GT.

Blessings,

What's the beef with one of the oldest observatories in the world?

Goodness, I'm glad the Papacy isn't a public populer election, because then we'd hear things like "My oppenent wants to increase funding to the Vatican Observatory; that's a strain on our collection-plate-payers that we can't afford*! I'm Cardinal John, and I approve this message" (Paid for by Catholics for Catholicism Inc.).

* [Never mind, of course, that the observatory is supported by a foundation].
