  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ever just start somewhere in scripture and another one will come to mind, and follow each through? Thats what this is I guess, but I always wanted a thread where you can just post them, and not start new threads. I have been thinking about the inward affections of Christ, but I cant really bring myself to post "the study" because it just makes it feel less so then it does in real time (when there actually is one)

Anyway, these came to mind (and then trailed off them)

Joseph lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother's son

And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.

And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Thats just where I started today and just paused, I just want a post for adding these (and other verses) variously into it.

God richly bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord

Indeed, in fact I find the scriptures are like a most incredible tapestry of finely interwoven threads that together give us the bigger pictures but even alone can be followed throughout relating to one another in significant ways. Some of the newer more modernist "versions" ignore these threads and disconnect them causing snags when one assess the bigger pictures....

This was beautifully put Paul, thanks very much for that.

Yeah, I will typically find small threads but really have no wheres to put them, so I figured just start a post (so whenever I felt like it) could come and post it here.

Our God richly bless you in Christ Jesus the Lord

Awareness of common threads running through the Bible opens up the way to a better overall understanding of general themes in scripture. Some churches have lost sight of so many of these, it's no surprise they have fragmented into so many denominations, each having a different view of what the Bible is telling us.
Someone said it was like a jigsaw puzzle-when all the pieces are put together we see the true message.

Isnt that the truth. I keep looking for where to join in at various conversations at different boards and I cant find one, I will just come down here just to stay centered (somewhat).

I had gone to Carm searching for a topic of interest there but there just isnt one. Except a bible study area where others are locked out of for some reason. Figures.

Sitting there baffled, I snagged a quick picture (I still have) of the front of the board topics, I have done that here before when fustrated, The front page of topics was just a huge page all of mass of quarrels within the mass sects in christianity, and in none of them (that I could find) had anything to do with proving Jesus Christ (holding out the word of life) none of it. There just doesnt appear to be any message really left but to contradict each other (all speaking their own words, all speaking differently, rather then the same). Everything everywhere seems to come in at one crooked angle (where the one stands) against another crooked angle (where the other stands) and nothing seems to show itself as straight.

I thought I was being pessimistic, but I dont believe I am any longer. There is (to me) nothing much left out there (as far as I can see). I mean someone could protest that (ofcourse) as folks do when someones pessimism begins to get the best of them and take upon the noble cause inform me (or another) of how wonderful their little cubicle is. I get it (25 years in) I know by now that folks will typically go for winning you over to their team (or their own cubicle of things) then to Jesus Christ, because they seem to know more of the former then that latter anyway.

And that first post wasnt a good one by far or any such thing, I feel foolish having posted it. None of those has any thing (in any direct sense) to do with the other. I was just swallowed up in thinking upon all their affections even as I was inspired to look at those (in various places) because of the lack of the same. I read them and I feel touched at a level I am rarely touched at today. Thats all.

It always comes down to the fact that I should just get used to (and shut up about it).

Which is fine, one can get used to cuddling with an icebox and can learn to be accepting of it too.

Having expectations (in any form) is the thing that will always snag me.

God bless you

Was looking at Benjamin and comparing among these

Gen 42:7 And Joseph saw his brethren, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them, and spake roughly unto them

Gen 42:8 And Joseph knew his brethren, but they knew not him.

Gen 42:20 But bring your youngest brother unto me; so shall your words be verified, and ye shall not die.

Gen 44:2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money.

And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

Gen 44:12 And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

1Cr 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

Phil 3:5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin

A crucible for silver

Phil 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

The cup,

Gen 44:2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest

Gal 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.

Phil 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings being made conformable unto his death;

Treasure in your sacks

Gen 43:23 ... the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money.

2Cr 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

Gen 45:1 Then Joseph could not refrain himself before all them that stood by him; and he cried, Cause every man to go out from me.

And there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brethren.

1Cr 9:1 Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

Gen 43:34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.

1Cr 15:10 But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly then they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

That just sounds like...

but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs.

God setting him apart from his mothers womb, prophetically, like if the wording is somewhat signified in respects to Paul

Benjamin = "son of the right hand"

Jacob's and Rachel's youngest son, Joseph's full brother

Acts 19:15 And the evil spirit answered and said,

Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

Gen 44:2 And put my cup, the silver cup, in the sack's mouth of the youngest, and his corn money. And he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken.

Gen 44:12 And he searched, and began at the eldest, and left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.

Acts 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

1Cr 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.

Thats what I find myself being reminded of in those verses anyway.

So far, I havent picked this one up for quite awhile and just returning to it.

Gen 43:34 And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin's mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him

To each of them he gave new clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred shekels of silver and five sets of clothes

The five times caught my attention..It speaks to me about restoration...Benjamin received 5 times more.. He was the blood brother of Joseph, who was taken from him.

For his loss he received five times more.. the same for Hannah.

1 Samuel 2Then Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife and say, “May the LORD give you children from this woman in place of the one she dedicated to the LORD.” And they went to their own home.
The LORD visited Hannah; and she conceived and gave birth to three sons and two daughters (five). And the boy Samuel grew before the LORD

Even in the Law, when an ox was stolen, it would have to be restored fivefold.
Ex 22:1 if a man steals an ox or a sheep and slaughters it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for the ox and four sheep for the sheep

...two cents
