  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I thought it was ok. The effects and the weapons were cool, the women were gorgeous, and the plot was pretty good. It just seemed corney and drawn out at times. Those vampire wives could have killed them probably 20 times, but were conveniently distracted just as they were going to bite.

Oh well, it was pretty cool.

Awful movie. My buddy almost fell asleep, and I was checking my watch an hour into it. I have nothing against big, loud summer blockbusters - Spiderman, The Mummy, etc.

But in Van Helsin, none of it came together. All "stunts" were done by poorly animated CGI models, the writing was terrible, the acting was atrocious, the ending was telegraphed a mile away, gigantic holes in the plot (anyone care to tell me how far apart Budapest and Transylvania are? A lot more than a few hours on horseback!), logical inconsistencies (how many full moons are there in the course of a few days?), etc., etc.

I like to be entertained - but this movie made me stupider for having watched it.

I'll be waiting for it on DVD. My roommate saw it because she's in love Hugh Jackman, but she said it wasn't great. Another guy at the water cooler said he couldn't stop looking at his watch. He said that the visual effects were stunning, but that the story was forced, there was little to no character development, and it just didn't have the gripping, thrilling effect of a Blockbuster film.

No wonder he looked so familiar ^_^ that was driving me nuts trying to figure out where I'd seen him before.

I enjoyed the movie, it was a bit of fun and I loved the soundtrack (which is now on my must have list).

If you ever see someone in a movie and you swear you've seen them elsewhere, remember their character name and look them up on the Internet Movie Database. It'll give you the actors name, and by clicking on it, will give you the actors profile and all the roles they've played.

I found this to be the average "Summer Action Movie".

I wouldn't say go expecting a great movie. But it was entertaining. Though I don't think I would watch it again.

I thought the lady of the movie was more burdan than anything. But not a burdan that would be suspensfull. But a annoying burdan, that kept you from being able to see what you wanted to see. I really wish they had just... Cut her out of the movie half the time, or spent less time on her.

There where alot of stupid things in this movie imo. But it was entertaining.

Ah! lol When I first heard the guy talk, I leaned over to my husband and told him that I KNEW that guy, but I couldn't place him. It's good to see what it was that poked me in the brain about that guy. lol

All in all, I liked the movie, but there were some things that bothered me about it. I wish that they had done some more explaining about Gabriel, his relation to God, and his relation with Dracula. The acting of Dracula left a good deal to be desired by myself, but basically because he didn't strike me as intimidating at all. I really just wanted Van Helsing to hit him with a fly swatter of something. I liked the action scenes and the all, though at the same time my mind was rejecting them like crazy. lol Of course, that happens every time I watch a fantasy movie when someone falls from a few stories and gets up like nothing happened. I liked Kate's character for the most part, but my view is colored because I liked her so much in Underworld. lol As for
her character's death, it didn't bother me too much. I can understand that a werewolf could have easily broken her in two, but it was ironic after her having taken such beatings through the rest of the movie.
Oh, and like the others, I think that the sex scene with the friar was just unnessesary and didn't further the movie at all.

All in all, it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but it was far from the worst. It was entertaining, and that's what I paid for. :)

i've heard the plot wasn't superb but there's still enough to spoil (don't think the spoiler button is working with the two sentences it's covering)

haven't seen it yet but heard it's definitely matinee material and not full price.

Van Helsing's character was not as fleshed out as it could have been, Gabriel?, but it was well played by Hugh Jackman, he owned the role. The action was great but drawn out at times with people swinging to and fro ad nauseum. The women were hot! Especially dracula's wives. Dracula was played well. He had the temperament I'd suspect of an immortal vampire jaded by centuries of life, again he had good taste in women. The female lead was good too. Her character progressed throughout the movie, and the end left me in tears. I haven't seen such a good ending since Gladiator or Jedi. It was romance unfulfilled. Sorrow for loss of what could have been and happiness for reunion all in one. The friar schene wasn't that bad. He did what most sharp thinking fellows might have done in his position and if I'm not mistaken her top was on. This was a great movie.

Eh, it was okay. It was more corny than anything, but then I went to the theater (not seeing any previews before) thinking it would be something like [Bram Stoker's] Dracula; which was obviously a mistake. :| I did note that a lot of the comedy seemed dumb or out of place. That and it was really easy for me to predict what would happen next, so that got old. But it's entertainment, and I didn't spend too much money on it so I don't regret watching it. :)

I was supprised that I actually liked it. The main reason was probably because I wasn't expecting anything. It was a little corny, but it didn't try to act like it wasn't. If it added a little more story and had a lower budget, it could have been a good cult classic.
