We have been discussing getting this shot...what are your thoughts? Have any of you gotten this?
Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.
My wife and I both got the shot. My brother did not, and unfortunately he contracted the disease (which is what prompted me to get vaccinated).
I have not, and have not given it a lot of thought. I do know that shingles is a really painful disease.
If you can afford the vaccine, please do so. I think it's about $200 not covered by Medicare. I had it in 2011 and it went on for about 4 months. Not pleasant. I used medicated powder and epsom salt baths to treat it.

Hubby had a very light case; thankfully I recognized the start of the lesions and he got treatment just in time (slight itching/twinges for a week at most).
I have considered it, but haven't spoken to the doc yet (I will at my next physical exam).
My immune system can react weirdly, and I am concerned about the potential for side effects vs the actual risk of getting it.
Still praying on it ~

You FIRSTI thought of this too Gail, for myself...I read they recommend the shot for everyone over 50, unles you have very serious immune system problems...it is tolerated well by most people.
I may go for it this year.![]()

Neither my wife nor I have serious immune system problems, and we tolerated it quite well. From the intense and long-term pain shingles can cause, I didn't want to mess with it. I don't remember what the potential side effects are, but we didn't have any.I thought of this too Gail, for myself...I read they recommend the shot for everyone over 50, unles you have very serious immune system problems...it is tolerated well by most people.

Oh, and of course, shingles only comes upon people who have already had chicken pox. (Probably goes without saying, but I just wanted to be a bit more comprehensive.)
You FIRST![]()
Just joking![]()

We are opting to NOT get a flu vax this year; we are not out in the public often (just shopping and Church) and are very careful with disinfectant gel after.
The kids and most elderly we are exposed to get vaccinated here, so that should limit our exposure.
Plus people we are with are very courteous in avoiding contact if they feel ill.
I really do hesitate getting such things because I can react weirdly to meds; the doc doesn't even want me taking supplements.
When we both worked with the public we did get the shots.
So far, so good for us in doing all the above in recent years![]()

I haven't had any reactions to the flu vaccine; if anything I wonder if it really works
How often they say (after the fact) there was a different strain
Thankfully we have been well for a number of years during flu season (no colds either), even when hubby was working
With all the prescription meds I USED to take, now I take only what I absolutely have to....and aside from my albuterol nebulizer for my asthma
(if/when I need it occasionally)....I take zero meds.![]()
My friend and her husband got the singles shot and had no problems. So then, I got it, with no problems.
Today I got a flu shot in one arm and a whooping cough shot in the other arm. I anticipate no problems.
