CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Are all of those science books?I would bet my last dollar,the answer is no.
If the school district is updating their curriculum, the books ARE outdated

Well, considering scientific knowledge doubles every ten years, on average, we'll know twice as much as we knew then, now, won't we.
Hopefully by that time, a majority of the educated world will have rid themselves of the need for superstitious beliefs. Now wouldn't that be something!

Personally, I think that is a Terrible Waste regardless of how out-of-date the Material is. There are probably a Lot of People who are in great need of those Books.
Of course, I suppose it has to do a lot with the Context of that Picture as well. Where and When was this picture taken?

Enlighten us as to what will change in 10 years to discredit evolution which did not happen in the last 150 years?
The last 30 years, with the advent of PCR, phylogenetics and advanced molecular genetics tools, have all validated evolution.
I bet in 10 years you will say "Evolution will fall in the next 10 years!" again without having learned anything.

What will change? Go to Amazon and you will see that a 10 year old text book on evolution is selling for 90% less. So to translate that for you. That means MY opinion of evolution and it's value is about 90% less then your opinion of evolution and it's value. At least that was the statement I made in the context of what we were talking about.
I am only telling you what it is worth to me. It is up to you if you want to pay $160 for books I am buying for ten cents on the dollar OR less. For example. Niles Eldredge is still alive and still working as far as I know. But the book that he wrote and I have been reading was written back in 1982. You think all this wonderful progress has been made and yet I do not see any progress at all. But by all means enlighten me, what advances in the last 30 year has been made in the theory of Punctuated equilibrium?

Someone is NOT doing their job. They are required by law to sell that as government surplus. Of course that means having to pay someone to sort though it but still that is what they are required to do.

The Gideons can pump out copies The New Testament at about $2, so let us say $4 dollars for a whole bible.
That means the bible is worth .0000001% to me than what is worth to you.

My point: How much a book costs does not diminish the power of its ideas. Your non sequiturs are embarrassing to human intelligence.

This has to do with a conversation we are having about evolution. AV started this but we are using a photo of worthless text books as a visual aid to suggest that the theory of evolution that they teach in those books is just as worthless.

The ideas in those books do not seem to be worth anything to anyone right now. Maybe it is all a scam. People pretending to write text books. Teachers pretending to teach.

And my point is that "Worth" is relative, especially when, regardless of how "Out of date" those books may be, they are still Valuable source of Information that should be Treasured.
Of course, then again, those could be a pile of Pro-creationism Text books, in which that might be the best way to dispose of them, prior to a Bonfire.
