Natalie Portman = ewww no thanks

Portman's English accent goes in and out, but not her performance, which becomes the heart and soul of the movie. Scratch the lousy Star Wars films.... and Portman, from The Professional to Closer, is one of the best actresses of her generation. Here she's dynamite!:)

I'm looking forward to seeing this, I'm a big fan of the comic book its based on and I've heard theres been changes to it and apparently the comic book writer isn't that happy with the movie.
I think they put a contemporary face on it by changing the politics from Thatcher to Blair/Bush.

I loved this movie. It's probably the best movie I've seen all this year so far and all of last year (unless Sin City came out in that year...cant remember). Anyway, I would suggest everyone sees this film. Very clever, action laced, and cool.

Yeah, there's a political message in the movie. I heard rumors (gonna say rumors cause I never heard any confirmation on it) that the graphic novel (and/or movie) was written in response to the Bush administration. About how the media feeds people contorted stories to further their own needs.

Even if you dont' care for the message, though you should, the movie is still enjoyable on many levels.

It is impossible for the graphic novel to have been written in response to the Bush administration considering the first installment of the graphic novel was published in 1982. ;) The movie, however, is somewhat tailored towards modern-day events I believe.

EXCELLENT movie. Besides V, the character I loved the most was Valerie, mainly because I could completely see the scene with her parents happening to me if I had brought home a Joann instead of a John.

As for the film attacking Christian values...well, it does criticize blind obedience, theocracies, homophobia, and hating those who are different from yourself. So if you are for any of those things, probably best you not see something that might upset your delicate sensibilities. ;)

I read a christian review which said this film attacks christian values and Blair/Bush so I really have no desire t see it myself.

It doesn't, in any way, attack Christian values. It attacks the idea of an oppressive government that claims it's doing what's best for the people by taking away all forms of entertainmnet that could be seen as provocitive or would stir people against the government; by taking away all homosexuals and locking them away in detention camps. That's what the movie attacks. If you want all that to happen, then I wouldn't suggest you see the film then. If not, then go see it.

Ah, alright then. :) Thanks for clarifying. ^.^ Yeah, I did see alot of similiarities between Fox news and their BNT news in the movie. ;)

I enjoyed the movie, but it was a big long at times. Lots of references to what's going on in our society today, in terms of media manipulation, secrecy, spying on the citizenry, etc. It got very violent at the end, a la Kill Bill type of bloody spattering.

But as far as it being anti-Christian, I would disgree with that. The religious theme was not central to the movie, and was apparent that religion was used as a tool to oppress people, in this case homosexuals and "undesirables". Nazi Germany used the same tools to rally citizens, as they brazenly broke every moral and Biblical code there was about killing and oppressing people.

Its funny, the movie is amazing, and one of its points is that sometimes you should make up your own mind... and people are not seeing it because they heard something bad about it from someone else. That tickles me.

I'm sure someone had to have seen the imagry of the masks and the rebirth and the changing of lives and the losing of the fear... go see the movie.

I would say it attacks Christian values:

Very strong humanist, anti-religious, politically correct worldview that is pro-terrorist and includes many anti-Christian elements such as a creepy Anglican bishop desires to sleep with an underage female, and it is implied that a fascist dictator is a conservative Christian who persecutes homosexuals, Muslims and bans the Koran and other books, plus some pagan elements and false religious elements in a scene in which the Koran is called “beautiful,” strong homosexual content in a politically correct manner including a lesbian kissing scene, strong anti-American bias including a mocking rendition of “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” and radical feminist comments from Gloria Steinem are heard; 29 profanities and 19 obscenities, including some strong profanities and "f" words ; very strong graphic violence including several action scenes in which men are cut up with swords and shot, lots of blood and gore (especially at end), implied biological experiments on people, and several torture scenes; depicted sexual immorality includes depicted lesbian kissing and naked homosexuals huddle together in photos resembling a perverted Mapplethorpe exhibit; extensive full frontal male and female nudity in a few scenes portraying naked and deceased concentration camp victims piled up in a pit; one scene of light alcohol use; no smoking; and, moral relativism, deception, bad role models, utilitarianism, brief talk about "tolerance" but the movie clearly has little or no tolerance for religion and hence is hypocritical, movie credits include sounds of radical Black Muslim statements by Malcolm X and unisex statements by radical feminist Gloria Steinem, title character uses SLA/Patty Hearst techniques on a sympathetic woman, and a strong theme of revenge is only partially rebuked.
