  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Utterly Inappropriate!

You thought this was a serious topic, right?

Nope, this is a fun thread. We were all talking about some of our inappropriate moments in our professional lives. What did YOU do that was inappropriate?

I will post my favorite later. I am too sleepy right now.

If we omit the word "professional", when I was a mailman quite a few stories used to circulate Bath Delivery Office about the latest things I had done wrong.

For example, I used to get bored out on delivery so I began to practice impressions of animal sounds as I went along. I can do a pretty good chicken, a horse, or a cow.

It used to cause problems though. When delivering the mail to country villages, people thought that these sounds were real. One woman came out into the lane, convinced that her horse had escaped from it's field. Another elderly lady scuttled into her home and slammed the door, thinking that a horse might be galloping down her garden path.

The trouble with imitating a horse's neigh is that you need a moist throat to do it. One time when I practising, I had a dry throat and the sound came out differently as "Huh, huh, huh, huh, huh!!!!!" A woman bent over doing some gardening freaked out when she heard that sound and put in a complaint.

The complaint was read out by my supervisor in front of the other workers. Not knowing what else to say, I retorted "We've got freedom of speech in this country!"

Good one Joe!

Alright, here is mine. I hope no one is offended by this.

Several years ago, it was April Fools Day. I get all kinds of e-mails from CNN and Fox News. One of the latest was about poor Terry Schivo and her death.

I went into the e-mail, kept all of the official CNN markings and titles, but changed the story to "Terry Schivo Miraculously Regains Consciousness During Autopsy!"

I sent it out to everyone in my department. Everyone but one person "got it". Of course, it was an April Fool's Joke, right?

That one person sent it to everyone she knew including the President of Levolor. The President of Levolor called her husband and told him. He then called all their friends.

I almost sent a follow up e-mail but I didn't. It is a good thing too because I almost got fired for that. :D

I wore jeans to an interview to become a supervisor. Oh yeah.

But in my defence, I'd had an internal interview before and it was beyond laid back. We didn't even sit down! Lasted about 10 seconds and went something like "You interested? Yeah, I am."

But the supervisor one was formal and I ass-umed it wasn't...

Got a nice chewing out for that! Of course the guy that chewed me out went to work in another department two weeks later. lol

I may as well have! lol

Once one of our executives sent out an email asking for donations for something-or-other. Instead of hitting "forward" to send it to my wife, I hit "reply" instead. Yeah. An IT vet like me made a rookie mistake! I said something like "get your checkbook ready!" and I was totally kidding...the cause was kinda silly as I recall.

But I get a reply back saying "No, *you* need to get *your* checkbook ready!!" lol He was playful about it which was very good. But if I'd said something worse...it could have been curtains for yours truly!

Here is a funny one. I didn't do this one, but one of my co-workers did.

So, the whole Finance Department was talking junk back and forth, and one of the guys's last name was Kirch. It just so happens that we had a VP of Ops by the last name of Kirsch. So, one of the guys, instead of hitting reply all, I have no idea why, but he searched for the name, and hit Kirsch instead of Kirch. (Sent it to the VP of Ops instead of the Financial Analyst). He said, "FU", but you know, all written out.

So, the analyst called the VP of HR and was in a dead panic. The VP of HR said he would get back to him. In a few minutes, he was called back to the VP of HR's office, and there sat the VP of OPS as well. The VP of OPS and the VP of HR invited him into the corner office, then, shut the door.

The guys said he was about to have a heart attack and just knew he lost his job. So, he tries to explain that it was all a mistake, but both VP's are giving him the "look". The VP's start asking him about the other people in the department and makes out like we are all getting fired for it. The guy is practically crying at this point. Finally, the VP of OPS throws his head back and starts laughing and says, "That was an Executive FU!"

I once found out that it is inappropriate to tell a man who owns a mob related bill collecting company, that his first in command helped him doctor his books in order to implicate the owner so that the 2nd in command (who is higher in mob structure than the boss) can take over the company lol

One time when I was delivering the mail near where I live, I only had to deliver this parcel and then I could go home. But if the recipient was not in to receive it, I would have to go all the way back into town and leave it at the delivery office.

I hammered on the guy's door but there was no answer. However, an upstairs window was open. No one living in Redland Park dares to go out and leave a window open due to the crime rate in the area, so I knew that someone must be in the house. I kept on and on banging at that door; still no answer.

Then, positioning myself under the window, I lined up a basketball-like shot to throw the parcel through it. It was a brilliant shot! The parcel, went up and through the open window, landing in a bedroom. Straight away an angry red face appeared at the window, demanding to know what was going on.

A complaint was made to the complaints centre, and came through to our office in printed form. It read something like:

"Mr Smith had just come home from working a night-shift and gone to bed, when he was startled by a large parcel which came flying through the window. When he leaned out to ask what was going on, the mailman replied: 'I'm just delivering your mail Sir.'"
