  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yes, sir...

+ In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. Amen.

Credo in Spiritum Sanctum, sanctam Ecclesiam catholicam, sanctorum communionem, remissionem peccatorum, carnis resurrectionem, vitam aeternam. Amen.

Pater noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum.
Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita
nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.

Ave Maria, gratia plena, Dominus tecum. Benedicta tu in
mulieribus, et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.

...Wait... Ahhh! I just posted again!

VOW,

Whatever he was referring to, I find his analogy offensive, and lacking in a sincere motivation for Unity and Understanding of each others beliefs. There is no love in mockery, regardless of whose faith is being mocked.

This I am really sorry for. Believe it or not, I was not really attempting to make any apologetic point. If I were trying to do that, I would have gone to the interfaith discussion board.

Nor was I trying to mock anything. Those of us Catholics who are aware of the forensic justification idea think it is totally mad, of course, but I thought my fellow Catholics might be amused at our use of the underlying idea in a domestic context. At this point, for us (my family), it has lost its theological context and is just a nutty thing we do occasionally to relieve the tension and take some pressure off.

However, this is just one more illustration of St. Paul's admonition to use serious and sober words to which no one can take exception.  The unity of the body of Christ is of great importance to me and I sincerely regret that this custom of ours, or my telling it, has offended anyone.

Peace to all,

Patriarch

Thanks, Patriarch, for your kind and generous apology. Please forgive me for falsely accusing you of things, and taking your words the wrong way. I think you can understand my feelings, tho, if I were to start a thread entitled "Useful Catholic Doctrine", and then if I went on to compare some Catholic doctrines to never-ending household chores. I can promise you, I would never start such a thread, not even in jest. Because I understand that your doctrines are very dear to your heart, and very precious to you. I am glad that unity is important to you, as it should be to all Christians. I pray that Christ would bring to our minds and hearts the things we can agree on. We have so much that we do agree about! I wish there was more rejoicing in that, and more emphasis on it.

In Christ's love,

Judi.
