• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Never enter any service, without picking your job.
It matters.
You don't want what ever the military wants you to do.
Your enlistment will be alot easier if you know your not going to
be counting rat hair on food, or what ever other job you can think of.

This isn't a job you can quit. You(she) will be doing that for probably all of the enlistment. pIck it carefully.

Please, next time you post, Please Capitalize the service.

The Air Force and Navy are considered Non combatant service forces. Unless you go for the Air Police, Pathfinders, or PJ's. You will have ajob muck like any civilian job only with some military ovetones. One Air Force Sergeant boasted "We are the only branch of the Service where the enlisted send the officers out to do all the dying"

There is an on going joke which explains the different branches:
The reason the services cannot work together is because they don't speak the same language. For an example, it you told all four branches to "Secure a Building"

- The Navy would turn off the lights and lock the door

- The Army would occupy it, post a guard, and prohibit unauthorised entry.

- The Marine Corps would assault it, hit it with artilery, and call in an air strike

- The Air Force will take out a 10 year lease with an option to buy.

I agree will Bill~~I went into the USMC in the early 80's and it was under an "Open Contract" where they would decide my MOS in exchange for a 3 year active instead of the usual 4. I ended up as a Radio Operator in an Artillery unit (MOS 2531 with 2dBn/10thMAR), which wasn't so bad, but there are all kinds of actual educational/real world training available you can use after you get out...especially the medical field...

I volunteered for the most comn job to get dumped on open enlisters.
Security police.

AFSP are unique, they are law enforcement, and base perimeter protection.
Tell an SP to secure the building, they would clear the building, and set up guard posts, and when checked the AFSP would be somewhere in the area, but rarely
in the spot they are suppose to be.

AF, one of the few services that can send out a mission and return to a hot meal,
warm comfortable bed, and return to the war tomorrow.

Whats the beast?

Everybody who joins the USAF now days goes through the beast. All you do is sit on the ugly side of Lackland AFB while air cannons go off and you roll in the dirt a few times. lol. It is basicly the old "Warrior Week" plus one. There is nothing to it. It's the Air Force's version of combat training... It started with the 8-week program the airforce has for boot. I thank God every day that I went through the 6-week program. If you have ever played soldier as a kid, you'll make through the "Beast"..

oh.
Just a ominous name for the same old "confidence course"?

Should say also,
one of the few branches of the military where the enlisted wave as the officiers go to fight.

Just tell her that if she joins the Air Force she will have it pretty easy no matter what job she gets because: 1) She is a woman. 2) She will get a non-combat MOS. 3) Its the Air Force! :)

But tell her to try and pick something she would enjoy (or thinks she would enjoy).
#2: She can be in Security Police. That is as close to combat as enlisted ground Airmen get. Aircrews can fly into combat zones. Not sure what enlisted flight jobs are currently available.
Even if she picks or is assigned to non-combat job, she can still be in the augmentation force. (auggies, shiver down the spine)

Yeah its the closest to a ground combat unit she will get. But she won't ever be a "ground pounder".:p
