  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Talked to my brother this morning for quite a long time and he seems completely normal. Hoping he stays that way. :prayer: He starts school next week I think.

Very encouraging. :) Prayers that all goes well for him with the new school schedule. Any word from the doctor(s) on his progress from their side of things?

You mean his doctor he had at the hospital? Nooo.

My parents are waiting on an appointment with new doctors: a new psychiatrist, an endocrinologist, and a neurologist. The ER docs thought he was doing well mentally this past weekend when he went there for the throwing up and weakness.

Talked to my brother for about an hour on the phone today. He is back in school. He had one class already this morning and will be going to another tonight. He has appointments with the neurologist and [new] psychiatrist tomorrow. We're all hoping that the new psychiatrist will try to take him off one of the drugs altogether and gradually taper him off the other one.

Glad your brother is improving, Melissa!

I was just looking up some of the drugs I used to take. Ha, it's scary! We really need to take a pro-active role in what we're putting in our bodies!!

One drug they gave me (and I never should have taken anyways) gave me horrid side effects! Chest pains, my leg went numb, my arm went numb.. that was before I found out that I had adrenal fatigue (which is an endocrine problem) and then I find out you do NOT take that drug if you have any endocrine problems because you could have a heart attack or worse! When I went to the ER when I having those symptoms though, you know what the doc said? He said 'oh, you think it's because of the ______ pills?" I said yes! But he wouldn't agree with that.. instead his recommendations were to quit crossing my legs!!!!!

And I just looked up another one I used to take. There was one night I took Benadryl to help me sleep.. I fell asleep but I woke up with my heart racing like I've never felt it race before. I thought I was either going to die or have a heart attack. Well now I know why! You shouldn't take Benadryl with one of the meds they gave me and I didn't know that at all. It can cause excessive effects if taken with this other medication!

So yeah.. I'm so thankful God is leading me down this journey to better health! There's a lot out there we aren't aware of.. even the doctors aren't always aware either.

um. wow. yeah I'd run far away from a doctor who didn't know what dopamine was

There was one time when I was about 16 or 17 my doctor had put me on some medication, and before I started taking it my dad did some research on it and found that there were about 100 pages worth of side effects right on the manufacturer's website. most of which effected the musculoskeletal system and caused depression, both of which I was already having problems with. According to the manufacturer, I would have had to get my family to keep an eye on me in case I turned suicidal while on the drug. so yeah. I wasn't quite impressed.

So I went back to my doctor and told him I thought it was too big of a risk on my health and asked for something else. He wrote me a new prescription. eventually. first he scoffed at me for believing everything I read on the internet and tried to tell me I was over reacting. I also had to get my money back on the prescription I had filled but never took, and after explaining why I wasn't taking the drug I got the same reaction from my pharmacist that I did from my doctor.

Its like its blasphemy or something to take control of your own health and watch what you put in your body. blergh.

Yeah it is! For the most part, it's like the medical profession questions when you take something healthy.. like nutrition from whole foods.. and refuse to take synthetic stuff. They do look at you like you're nuts! Or if you tell them you have certain side effects from the drugs you're taking they don't always take you seriously.. some do though! :)

Exactly! I'm not going to claim I know better than a doctor but is it too much to want to be kept abreast of what's happening/what I'm being given? I actually had a doctor when I was little who would listen to you tell him your symptoms, then he'd just write you a prescription and expect you to leave and take the drugs without knowing what was wrong with you. He always seemed taken aback when I asked him.

Glad to hear your brother is doing well!

Another update: Yesterday, my brother saw the new psychiatrist and he did think this was drug induced. He took him off of the antipsychotic completely (which was surprising to me but hopefully it will be OK). The doctor will take Matt off the other medication next. He goes back next week for another appointment.

He told my mother that they can call him anytime and if there is an emergency to let him know and he will come to the ER. So, he is basically the opposite of the doctor Matt previously had!

ETA: I may have already mentioned this but my brother has also now gone to church twice.

Soo... yesterday my brother didn't really want to eat and this morning he had song lyrics on his facebook from the same song he was fixated on when he went crazy ... I told my Mom to talk to the doctor today even if Matt seems pretty normal because I think those two things are bad signs.

Your mom and dad need to make sure they have two documents if your brother is no longer considered their dependent:

Durable Power of Attorney
Healthcare Surrogate

They can pull both documents off legalzoom.com for around $30 each, I believe and have them notarized. That way, they can have access to all of Matt's records and make decisions on his behalf, if necessary.

It's actually recommended that spouses have these documents for one another and that adult children have them for their aging parents.

I copied this and emailed it to Mom.

Kirk and I are going to be meeting with his cousin (who is a lawyer) to go over stuff like this for us.
