  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Urgent prayer request

They can also call DCF and file neglect charges against the facility, although the facility my grandma was at threatened my grandpa that he wouldn't be allowed to move her if they opened a case against the facility. Not sure how that's possible  - but it's another option for your parents to consider.

Wow. Who knew the hospitals and medical facilities in FL were so sucktacular. :sorry:

Sooo ...this morning, Matt is randomly being discharged from the hospital. LOL.

Personally, I would have expected them to keep him longer for various reasons, and I find the timing interesting since my parents are starting to flip out. But at least now they can get a second opinion and if Matt were to need medical care again, my parents can take him to a DIFFERENT hospital. They will surely never be doing business at this one again!

To be fair, when I was hospitalized with a drug reaction in 2005, my hospital was great. They communicated with us, listened to my parents' preferences about drugs, etc. Oh, and as an added bonus, they had good food :sorry:

I hadn't thought about DCF.

That's disturbing if that is true that they could have kept her!

Praise God! I will continue to lift all of you up in prayer and ask God to guide your parents' footsteps to proper, professional care for Matt. :prayer:

I don't see how it is true, unless they have to observe the patient in the facility in order to determine whether or not the allegations are true. But if they are...

I would verify something like that before believing what some whacked out director at a horrible facility told my gramps, though. ;)

So yesterday Matt went home at noon and he was knocked out from the drugs until 3am. Then he was awake the rest of the night -- and so was my mother, because she wanted to see how he would act. I talked to him early this morning and he was EXTREMELY hyper. He made a lot of sense but then would talk about strange things, too. Mom drifted off to sleep and he was like, "I think I will walk to my friend's house to get my xbox controllers" -- I told him he didn't need to be going anywhere at this point and if he was gone when Mom woke up she would freak out... and his friend was probably still asleep. :sigh: So... he doesn't have it all together, because if he did, he would know that already. He's a lot better than he was, though.

I think they discharged him too soon, but still, we're glad he is out of there, for obvious reasons.

Mom and Dad are still going to talk to a lawyer.

They are going to try to get Matt into a different psychiatrist and hope to get him on different drugs or at least get him taking this new drug at night instead of during the day, so he can function. They may also take him to the neurologist again to get another MRI because our psychiatrist and nurse friends in SC said he may be having issues from his recent head injury that have been overlooked.

I feel so sorry for my mom because she didn't get any sleep last night due to watching Matt. From how hyper he sounded on the phone, he sounds like more of a handful to watch than a puppy or a kid... or even a group of kids. But if I was her I would have done the same thing -- there is no way I would have left him unsupervised.

BTW Matt's psychiatrist at the hospital had been treating him for bipolar disorder. At this point we do not agree with that diagnosis and think he should have tried to rule out the drug reaction first. He COULD have bipolar, but it seems stupid to ignore the HUGE coincidence of the drug and just jump to that conclusion without Matt ever having had any mental health issues and without a family history of bipolar disorder. However, I would take bipolar over schizophrenia any day, so if bipolar is the accurate diagnosis then we will still be thankful.

Thanks for the update. :prayer:

I know someone whose adult son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and know all that she has been through with him. Praying that he has neither, but bipolar is definitely the lesser of two evils, IMO.

My brother went back to the ER this morning. Not for being crazy, though. He went because he has continued to throw up and was getting weak and because he has not been able to sleep. He was given IV fluids and medications, and they did a lot of tests to make sure he was OK. I don't know the results of the tests yet but he is being discharged so I guess they aren't terribly concerned.

The docs at the ER said he should not have been taking the anti-nausea medication he got at the mental hospital because it had the same effects as the other one which probably caused all of this.

I said that like a week ago... cough.

Prayers for your mom and dad and the strength needed to push through this. Prayers for Matt, as well. I, too, am so glad he's out of that place. Even though he's not 100%, it sounded just terrible that your parents' wishes were so disrespected and it would appear the wrong decisions being made on Matt's behalf. Hopefully, they can get him to a better place with doctors who actually listen instead of pushing.

Update: My parents say my brother has been very clear headed these past few days. He went to church yesterday. The doctor had him tapered off 1/2 the dose of antipsychotic pill he was taking because it was making him so sick. He was able to sleep last night without the help of a sleeping pill.

Awesome, awesome news. :) Glad for it.
