  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Possibly, but the longer he takes to recover, the worse the prognosis.

Understood. I just thought he was on the downside of dangerr since you said he had a relatively normal day the other day.

Has the neurologist been back to see him? What kind of indication is he giving your parents regarding Matt's recovery?

I don't think he has really been seen by anybody, except MAYBE the psychiatrist for 5 minutes here and there, at best -- but we don't know because my parents haven't heard from that guy since the first night Matt was there (Saturday August 7th). The only people talking to my parents are the nurses and they don't know much of anything.

I thought he was on the downside of danger, too, until I talked to him on the phone recently and realized that he is still not back to normal. He's a lot better, but has a LOT of room for improvement still and I'm concerned that it is taking so long. His diagnosis may not end up being a drug reaction if it takes too long for him to stabilize.

Ugh. :( Were your parents able to find a patient advocate? From the experience we recently had with my grandma at a rehab facility after a hospital stay, I would highly recommend your parents make as much noise as possible to find out what is going on with your brother.

Most importantly, to find out what meds they are giving him - specifically for known side effects and contraindications. That is what ended up causing my grandma to be worse off than she should have been from all of this.

Have they tried talking to the director of the facility and complaining about the lack of responsiveness they are getting? It can be very frustrating when you don't know your rights and/or how to navigate the system.

Update: furiously mad about this hospital. Too tired to post all the bad things, but here's some examples: they have not noted in his chart (EVER) that he has been throwing up EVERY DAY, sometimes multiple times a day. The doctor wouldn't return my mother's calls for a week. No case manager or other person was assigned to communicate with my parents (we learned today from my friend's father who is a psychiatrist that there should have been one). I'm going to stop now, because if I talk about Matt's psychiatrist in detail my head might explode, but long story short, my parents are getting a lawyer and trying to also figure out how to get a second opinion/if they can move him to another hospital.

Oh, the good news is that for the moment, I feel better about Matt's prognosis. I would explain that, but then I'll get mad and type angrily and possibly give myself tendonitis or something :sorry:
