  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's an idea for a movie. I need some feedback.

We meet a teenage girl Joanne and her boyfriend, who are in love and eventually Joanne’s boyfriend and her are in one bed and next thing we know is that she’s pregnant. They don’t tell anything to her parents and under her boyfriend’s pressure they decide to get rid of the baby so the life can go on for them.

We see an abortion clinic with bushes and trees in bloom around it and beautiful colorful birds flying around the bushes. Cars coming to and leaving from the parking lot.

Joanne walks in one of the rooms of the clinic. A conversation with the doctor, she signs papers. The curtain shuts so we can't see what's behind it. Just the sound of stainless steel instruments, and other ambient sounds. Then we see a glowing ball shaped something (representing soul of the unborn) raising above the curtains and flying out of the window, while the procedure sounds cease and curtains open again. We see the clinic from the outside, with same bushes in bloom and birds around the bushes, and glowing "balls" raising here and there from the clinic, then flying away. One of the birds follows one of these souls.

Joanne is back home with her boyfriend, crushed, and crying, and her boyfriend’s attempts to help her are futile. Eventually they break up.

The bird keeps following this soul into the woods and a crack in a mountain, and way deep into the caves below, and end up in a massive opening where we see millions similarly shaped entities that look like small babies and children, and more arriving each minute, and we hear breathing of millions breaths, and sobbing here and there. The particular soul who the bird was following ends up in a corner of this giant cave and we can see it closer now, as the glowing ball receives a shape of a baby, who then transforms into a child with sad eyes and beautiful hair. As we look into his innocent face, we see a short spark in his eyes. Could this be an evil spark? Next to this baby is the small bird, and the boy pets the bird on her head.

An apartment in a big city. This is an apartment of a lonely mother. She’s African American and her name is Sheila.

She comes back from work with her little daughter who was at the daycare. As she puts her daughter to sleep, she sings her a lullaby. The lullaby goes as follows: "Bayoo bayushki bayoo, do not lay on the side of the bed, because a grey wolf will come and will snatch you by your side".

The next day, Sheila is at her work, and she’s an accountant in a small company. Her man calls her and they talk. They have been a couple for several months now, but they do not see each other every day. Tonight CJ, her man, comes to her home.

On the same night, CJ comes to Sheila’s apartment, and they all have a dinner, then Sheila puts her little girl to bed but tonight she does not sing her a lullaby, instead she starts the tape with this lullaby. Little girl (Kate) falls asleep in an unrestful sleep, seemingly bothered with her night dreams.

Several years pass. Sun rises over the city. Heavy traffic on the roads, everyone goes to their jobs.

We are in a middle school. We see a girl who is around 10 years old. She stands alone near the fence and looks out on a road without expressionThe school day is over and she is picked up by her mother and the man who we saw before. They all come home, which is the same apartment but with some changes that came during the past few years. As the girl's mother and her man are busy with whatever they do, the girl goes to bed and we see how she can't fall asleep. In some time she takes an old tape player from her closet and puts in a tape with the lullaby we heard before. She presses "play" and as we hear the old tape playing, the girl falls asleep and darkness comes over.

We see the cave with the souls of the unborn babies and camera moves through the space of the cave into the corner where we left the small baby and the bird a few scenes ago. The bird looks very old now, but the baby looks the same as when we left it. But the bitter look in his eyes is now only more deep and evil. He takes the bird and whispers in her ears. In a moment the bird makes effort to fly and even though it seems so hard, it flies up and the spiritual body of the baby follows the bird as she flies back through cracks in the walls and outside to the forest. As soon as the bird reaches the surface, it falls on the grass and can't fly any more.

The baby is crawling through the woods days and nights until it finds a wolf's lair. A mother wolf and her 3 baby wolves look out of the lair and seem to feel the presence of the spiritual body near them.

Several years later.

Home of the girl who we met before, where she now lives with her boyfriend. We learn that she studied in the med school. One evening her boyfriend proposes to her and she says "yes". The both go to her home and continue celebrating until late at night when they both go to bed.

The girl can't sleep again. She comes to her fiancé’s room and tells him about her strange sleep disorder, that it happens every several weeks and the lullaby her mother used to sing her, and the tape. She still has the tape. In the end she turns it on and falls asleep again.

She's at her work, in a maternity home where she works in a room where they put newly born babies. Sometimes she works night shifts, and at one point strange events begin to occur. Babies disappear in a way no one can explain. This is being investigated.

In some time, all the babies, who disappeared from the maternity house, are later found in different places in the same town, alive and well. The girl was accused in stealing them but it could not be proven but still the maternity hospital had to fire her as the hospital started having a bad reputation because of these events.

Eventually we learn that wolves steal babies and bring them to a place in a certain forest, where the souls of the unborn enter the bodies of the babies, which are then returned and found by people and given back to their mothers.

As these babies grow as regular babies, their mystery is not revealed until something triggers in them and they begin their revenge.

We have no idea that same thing was happening not only in this particular maternity home, but all over the world, and it started happening all at the same time. So in several years we see an army of people whose souls were replaced and who eventually begin an uproar against those who killed them in the first place. This becomes a major unstoppable wave of deaths all over the planet.

What happens next?

i do not favor abortion, but why make a movie ???? Why take such a sensitive issue, and make a movie, i don't understand your thinking...
Well sir, my thinking is that degree of sensitivity of an issue is not a factor for movie makers, usually, and if we can make movies about death penalty, cloning and gays, then what's the problem? I don't understand your thinking here too.

I don't think the souls of aborted babies go hover in caves and get ravaged by wolves, so I would not endorse such a film.

I agree. They go to Heaven, where they live with God for eternity.

guys I know they don't go to caves, but hey, it's just fiction, and this plot does not claim to be theologically correct....

So how would this change anyone's view of the rightness or wrongness of abortion? People who are anti-abortion will likely point out the unbiblical plot; people who are not anti-abortion are not going to be swayed by an entirely sci-fi/fantasy story about what happens to aborted souls.

It's a creative idea, I admit, but I'd advise you to stick to the Bible and what it says about life after death. If you don't make it theologically correct, then people will get so caught up in that that they won't pay attention to or even notice the message there.

Well how can we make it more correct?

Here's feedback, for what it's worth:
a. The piece does not pretend to be theologically sound. It has the ring of a Dean Koontz novel, and might stand scrutiny as a good vs. evil theme.
b. One plot element that needs to be confronted: what happens to the souls of the babies whose bodies are stolen by the murdered Unborn? Possibly this could be presented as "and the killing continues" -- the Unborn don't care about the souls they've kicked out, because they are intent on revenge. With that, you have an automatic sequel possibility.
c. I applaud the use of the wolves. The species is still misunderstood, while they are one of the best examples of "family" in the animal kingdom. They mate for life, only the alphas mate and give birth, and the others are in a well-ordered heirarchical family group, while "bad seeds" are banished.

By sticking to the Bible. The whole 'souls of the unborn' thing might be interesting, but it's very contrary to what the Bible teaches. Maybe it would be better if you cut the whole 'souls of the unborn, intent on revenge' action thing and made it more poignant.

So what do you suggest? Trash this plot or keep working on it?

If you want to write a story or script about abortion, then that'd be a great idea!
But if you mean this plot, then no. Sorry.
Well I don't want to write another anti-abortion script. I posted it here because I had this idea and wanted to see what other people think. Anyway. If you have better ideas, let me know :)
