Hi everyone

I want to upgrade my rig but am not sure what to get... at the moment I have:

Pentium 4 @ 3.06 GHz with hyperthreading

MSI 875P Motherboard

2Gb PC-3200 DDR

Hercules 9800 XT 256MB

Seagate 120 GB Hard drive

My budget is around, I can go over this but would prefer not to. 300 OMR = ₤416 = $780

Because I live in the middle east I can go to some local shops and get some items for very cheap but others are not available so I will have to get them from the internet.

Obviously I need to get a new motherboard (I am thinking of another MSI because they are all that is available here) which supports dual core and PCI express but I am not sure what next... I would like to get one of the new Core 2 duo processors and I definetly want a new graphics card because my current one has lots of problems, especially with shadows and shading, I usually need to turn them off when playing games. Then there's the RAM, I have been doing some research and see that now PC6200 is available... but its damm expencive....

Honestly, you've got a pretty good computer right now. You can probably upgrade with $780, though unless you can get some of the components really dirt cheap, I'd recommend waiting a bit and building up your budget some, and then getting some good stuff rather than just average. But it's up to you, you definated could get a decent computer for that price.

Is that the spces your looking at upgrading to or what you've now got on hand ?

That is my old computer, I've had it for 2 years and decided it is about time for an upgrade... I also have got lots of spare money in my wallet lol I don't spend money very often.

I have decided on and orderd some cheap parts from novatech.com. They were the cheapest I could find... especially after VAT is deducted!

I have ordered:

E6600 Pentium core duo
ASUS P5W DH M/B
1GB OCZ PC-8000 RAM
X1600XT 256Mb graphics card.

It comes to 372 OMR = ₤520 (Ex. VAT)

3GHz isn't anything to be sniffed at.

I'm running a PC I built myself about three years ago - it's a Pentium 4 going at 2.4GHz - it might not go like the clappers, but it works for what I want it to do!
I only recently broke the 2 GHz barrier and that's with a laptop! ;)

Damn. Your setup will kick my setup's ass anyday! I'm barely getting by with P4 2.4ghz, 512, 74 GB....I wish I could upgrade to that!:D
