Hi members and guests,

After 5 hours of programming, I present version 3 of the Christian Forums Blessings System.

Essentially, I had to RESET EVERYBODY's Blessing Points back to ZERO again.

I apologise for this - there is no way around it - I completely overhauled the whole system.

This is how it works now:

1) Members gain SEVEN blessing points for every NEW THREAD (not for replies).

2) Members can decide to BLESS another member by clicking on the "BLESS" button at the top of each post. When you bless a member, you essentially TRANSFER to the other member some of YOUR blessings - eg. if you have 100 blessings, you can bless another member with 5 blessings - your blessing points would now be 95 blessings.

3) Staff (moderators and administrators) can BLESS members with as many blessing points as they wish depending on the how well the member contributes to the forums.

Please let me know if there are any bugs in the system.

Thanks for your patience as we continue to improve the forums!

:)

Enjoy blessing each other!!! Remember, when you bless someone, you are giving them your blessing points! (Except for staff!)

The main difference is that BLESSINGS ARE NOW TRANSFERRED between members when you bless someone. So usually it's someone with a higher blessing (ie. who has posted a lot of new threads) who would bless someone else.

Of course, if staff feels that a member has been very helpful, they can be blessed with extra points by staff too.

Also, the Most Blessed member will now be at the top of the homepage next to the Most Voted member. :)

hmmmm....

Not trying to be difficult here but a couple things come to mind. Would not the system as it is now not contribute to a person trying to accumulate blessings and therefore be less likely to to 'share' their blessings? Also noticed that now a person cannot bless another person, regardless of how good the post may be, if they don't already have some sort of accumulated blessings themselves. And wouldn't the system as it is set up now heavily favor more controversial posters who could post new threads just for the sake of posting and thus clutter up the boards with nonsense?

??????????

Are you supposed to bank blessings for a rainy day? Save them like poker chips? Or get rid of them as soon as possible, like cooties?

I will neither worry about it or bother with it. My purpose here is to share my faith with others, and to educate people about the Catholic Church, to clear up the misconceptions so we all can fully celebrate being the Body of Christ.

<shrug>

Peace be with you,

It's not really a popularity contest.

The reason why we make it a transfer of blessing is because the old system was open to abuse - anybody can sign up for another account and just keep blessing his original account again and again and again...

This current system (version 3) actually allows staff to bless people with points (like what I have did with all the posters who posted here) who can then bless others.

Also, you get SEVEN points each time you post a new thread - this is aimed at rewarding those who start new discussions here, and not for people to "spam" the forums with useless threads.

Remember, the staff can also minus points too.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's only been 7 hours since I started this new system - give it some time, let yourself accumulate some blessings first... :)

This is how it is meant to work.

Members posts new threads - getting 7 blessings each from the site for starting new discussion.

Certain members who are recognised by staff for being contributors and are helpful will also be given blessings too.

Members accumulate these points, and when they see another member who has done something good - they can bless this member by giving the other member some of their blessings.

This way, each blessing point has an intrinsic value - members have earned them.

With the previous system, blessing points were made out of thin air, and members were giving them away easily as it costs them nothing.

Now, giving away blessings COSTs something to each member. This makes blessings even more meaningful.

Remember, it is easy to give away something that costs us nothing. It means a lot more when we give something to another that has cost us something.

Erwin: It is to you that I give my blessing. You deserve all my blessings for putting up with all of us, and supplying us with this fantastic site. Its funny...I am a Christian deep within my walk and I try to help others with my post. But I find, that I am the one that is getting the most out of all of this. I have had to search my mind, soul, the Internet, and of course my Bible, to find plausible answers to the threads. I now know that as long as I am alive, I will always be a student. There is so much to learn.

Thank You!!! :) LOVE

Erwin, I like the new system.

My only question now is, can we see who has blessed us? If not, can we at least see why we got blessed? Besides starting a new thread I mean. Like I have around 117 blessings right now...how did I get those. Some were for starting new threads, but how did I get the rest? Was I helpful? Was I good? Just curious. ;)

***EDIT***

I just lost  5 blessings! What did I do wrong?

It's anonymous. All glory to be given to God.

If not, can we at least see why we got blessed?

Because someone feels that you are worth it.

If you suddenly find yourself with a LOT of blessings, chances are one of our moderators or administrators felt that you deserve it.

If your blessing count drops, it means you have blessed someone else. When a member blesses another person, they are essentially TRANSFERRING blessings to the other person.

This makes blessing points valuable, and means so much more to bless someone else, as it would have cost us something. Plus the fact that the other person does not know who blessed them (unless you tell them of course).

Hope that explains it a bit! :)
