Update on Yovel - Prayers Needed!

I got an update from Yovel's wife today.... things are not going well. Please continue to keep him in your prayers!

Well, here we go again. His liver issue (which is delaying his back surgery) may also be the cause of another incident. He may have meningitis or encephalitis. He’s in the hospital for at least several days as he is given a course of antibiotics and steroids and they are running all kinds of tests.

Here is the latest update - unfortunately it is not good news.

Yovel is having a rough time of it. His headache has returned and his fever is up, and he’s still in the hospital. The doctor took him off antibiotics after 3 days because there was no evidence of infection, yet 24 hours off the antibiotics Yovel started growing weaker and paler and more confused in his thinking processes. Now it is 48 hours past no antibiotics, and Yovel’s oncologist has entered the fray. She suspects it is not meningitis but something related to the lymphoma he had last year. They are going to do another spinal tap in the morning. I’m going to ask the oncologist to move him to Integris Baptist hospital in OKC, where she has jurisdiction.

His liver is involved somehow because it is enlarged and his bilirubin count is up.

Update: He was transferred to the better hospital in OKC. They’ve figured out so far that he does have viral meningitis, he’s anemic, and he has a severe B12 deficiency. We don’t have the results of the second spinal tap yet.

Update! Yovel is home and improving steadily. His killer headache is gone. The viral meningitis is running its course and he should be feeling well enough for back surgery in a couple of weeks—it depends on what his follow-up appointments show.

Please continue to keep him in your prayers that he will heal so that he can have the much needed back surgery asap!
