I just finsihed listening to his new statement. What an unpleasant person. I have no idea whether he's guilty of anythiong or not, but his whole "if they think I'm on coke, let them bet they're money or their car and then I'll prove them wrong" shtick is just silly.

I agree!

People can take or leave what he says....interpret it wrongly or rightly; judge or support.

I am deeply saddened to see this all transpire for him, and the Church.

SOLT has a purpose and its not to be pastoral. Its a preaching order, like that of the Fathers of Mercy.

Those are the facts that are being assumed as something else. Always have by some people it seems as he was assumed guilty from the start.

You do know calumny is a lie right? I see no lies there in his quote. Its all true enough.

Was an oversight. I should have added "or detracted" (which I did so above)and no I do not know it is truth. I see his decisions are compromised by what he stands to loose .. . a lot of money. I will make no judgement as to whether his statments are true or not.

I'll wait until the SOLT accept his resignation.

It matters not whether they accept it. He can act resigned which forces them to formalize it.

This makes none of his previous message that was from the Truth of Christ wrong. But it does show the dangers of thinking that people are here for you when they are responding to the message of Christ. He could make a rock preach gold, there should be no pride in ourselves for the gift of spreading His word. And this action by John Corapi makes me worry seriously about the man's pride. Reading his statement was like reading a manifesto.

Jesus said that God would make the stones cry out Hosana if people were prevented from doing so.

I do completely agree . . .that along with the money he stands to loose from his works and speaking engagements, and his grandiose claims. . .

I sincerely hope there is something psychological going on, for if there is not, this becomes even more disturbing.

But an autobiography named the same as your new endeavor that coincidentally comes out soon after his announcement that he is petitioning for a release from the clerical state according to his superiors; who asked him to return to live in community and he said no.

Just strikes me as a series of ill planned moves at best.

None of this means his message was not good, but I pray for the man because this is all just odd.

Oh I understand how justice works. . . that 's not the issue Joab. . you're missing my point entirely.

If we follow Christ, if we deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him daily, we are NOT to seek justice for ourselves . . . . this is the path of saints TO WHICH WE ARE ALL CALLED.

Yet, John Corapi, while preaching and teaching in his capacity as priest, taught for people to b preparead to go through the crucible and be made saints.

When his opportunity to do so came, as Jesus taught, to go through the crucible, and to allow it to mold him into a saint, he rebels against the Church and leaves his priestly duties behind.

We are called to work for the justice of others, but never for ourselves.

I was much shocked at what he wants money wise for his cd's and such. At any rate, the man has plenty of money and property. He wishes to leave, uh - he already has left, mumm. He is currently bringing a civil suit against the woman apparently (from what I read on the net) He has broken with his religious life. I only hope people have the sense to know they are Catholic and not follow anyone out away from her. Mr Corapi often said he ws not going to hell for anybody. Me neither. I will stay with Mother Church. Where Jesus is in the Eucharist. It is a shame that Mr Corapi chooses to walk away.

I think it is just so shocking and most never saw it coming that has all of us wondering and conjuring. May God be with us all.

Yea I know where they came from and read and listened to them too. I think they are probably correct. The accused should not be left defenseless. Even a criminal caught red handed has the right to a public defense.

I tend to agree. I know he says he isn't bitter but I think the wound shows. I believe he would be better off remaining silent about the Bishop even if he thinks the Bishop is wrong. I can understand it for what it is though. I feel sorry for all involved. If it were the other way around, the Church would be accused of throwing the accuser under the bus. At least this way justice can be done in a court of law because Fr. Corapi is savy of the ways of the world and the truth can be known. The sad part is, even if exonerated of the accusations, the gossip hounds will not care. The scandal has done its damage.

It matters not whether they accept it. He can act resigned which forces them to formalize it.

Unless he is laicized, he will always be a Fr. in my eyes. He never was in ministry anyway. Still a Fr.

And there we go. . it was John Corapi himself who complicated it . . this clarifies his words here:

The Church will conclude that I am not cooperating with the process because I refuse to give up all of my civil and human rights in order to hold harmless anyone who chooses to say defamatory and actionable things against me with no downside to them.

He wants his accuser to experience the downside of her actions . . . .that is not forgiveness despite his claim to have forgiven her. That is revenge.

I no longer think this is odd. . it is going to drive book sales through the roof.

Where did you read he was asked to live in community and refused? I must have missed that. I pray for him and the Church as well. So that something gives where both the accused and accuser can get an equally fair shake. As odd as all that looks, like you say, the attempt to suppress him looks equally odd. I have always suspected there is more to the reasons behind that, that people aren't realizing. He became a loose canon before this accusation, whether its true or false. I saw him at the Cintas center, I think one of the very last conferences and during the day heard all about the whistle-blowing, the new Harley, the death threats and .45 apc concealed weapons permit and the personal trainer 6 days a week. Not to mention the died beard and eyebrows seemed completely vain to me. I didn't place any expectations on him beyond the message conveyed. I do believe he was caught up in his lifestyle and don't blame the Church for heading that off, for his own good and the good of the Church. I still want to see justice done though and don't care one bit if thats done in a civil court.

Joab, do you realize by his filing a civil suit against this person, his action has surpressed witnesses in the Church's ecclesial investigation, the witnesses to his ecclesial action are now hog tied by the secular court process? They cannot say anything to the Church on his behalf or against him BECAUSE HE initiated this civil suit. . . they are under gag orders now - that was brought up earlier in the thread.

People are now under gag order and CANNOT testitfy in the ecclesial process. . . So he, and HE ALONE, has caused the situation within the Church that puts the Church's process on indefinite hold.

This is HIS doing. . not the Church's

I am finding his announcement to be one of obfuscation . . partial truths. . attempting to make it look like a failure of the Church system has led him to this point, when it is his own actions that have tied the Church's hands!

I pray that the Church is not being manipulated for personal gain . . . . but my fears are growing.

So to be part of this community means one cannot have such possessions. . . and he has chosen his possessions over his community . . . too many things here to be simply coincidence. . . . have we all been played?

I was most concerned with the stopping of the investigation when I first read that and think I must have only skimmed that second paragraph. Yup, thats a shame. It really does look like he is wiser in things of the world than in the ways of the Lord. I kind of figured that out a long time ago over the vanity and money anyway. Even before this Eyetenour scandal.

I still thought the theology he preached was sound, but there was a shadow hanging over the truth. The sad thing is, people could tear to shreds even a Bishop Sheen if they wanted to. I've seen that attempted too.

His preaching and theology was sound. Nothing takes away from a message that is true. But when you speak truth, often people listen then they come to you and the temptation for pride is great. Fulton Sheen always guarded against it.

It seems here perhaps the enemy tempted with money and power and to outward appearances by his own actions it seems as though he stumbled and continues to persist in pride.

May the Lord guide him.

But his message, when in line with God's truth, is not his message but God's and the truth of it remains. Those who speak truth often get the temptation of power from the world others who speak it are attacked.
