I agree!I hope this thing isn't going to continue indefinitely .
There has been much speculation on this thread , much guessing , and some what I can only charitably call gossip .
I don't know John Corapi or his bishops , and would not assume to make any judgement on any of them .
May I suggest that if this thread is to continue , the posts will be based on facts , empty of innuendos and of content that is of a doubtful nature .
And his announcement syncs with, according to him the imminent release of his autobiography. It just all looks bad for him, refusing to rejoin his community but decide to remain on his ranch in Montana, leaving the priesthood and making the announcement of his new business and similarly named autobiography (which is going to be immanent) kind of shows that although he has been undergoing this investigation for three months...you don't just pull a book out of thin air as well as a new company. So the announcement has been planned for some time.
It just strikes me as an odd and ill chosen series of moves. Prayers for all involved, it is all just odd.
John Corpai made a pulbic statement. It is from his public statement that I drew the quotes from:Actually I meant to back up to the beginning to see where it all began and who started it. It wasn't Fr. Corapi as far as we know so thats an assumption.
Those are the facts that are being assumed as something else. Always have by some people it seems as he was assumed guilty from the start.
You do know calumny is a lie right? I see no lies there in his quote. Its all true enough.
I'll wait until the SOLT accept his resignation.
For me the fact that speaks the loudest is that he now starts his own ministry and is leaving the priesthood in order to do it calling himself "black sheep dog" and acting like his vocation was basically a means to celebrity that can be cast aside.
I have reserved opinion on this but this action makes me think he is more concerned with celebrity and has some pride issues.
This makes none of his previous message that was from the Truth of Christ wrong. But it does show the dangers of thinking that people are here for you when they are responding to the message of Christ. He could make a rock preach gold, there should be no pride in ourselves for the gift of spreading His word. And this action by John Corapi makes me worry seriously about the man's pride. Reading his statement was like reading a manifesto.
All SOLT priests write books and sell them at the talks they give.
SOLT has a purpose and its not to be pastoral. Its a preaching order, like that of the Fathers of Mercy.
Its evident to me that you don't understand how justice works. You missed my point entirely.

Yea I know where they came from and read and listened to them too. I think they are probably correct. The accused should not be left defenseless. Even a criminal caught red handed has the right to a public defense.John Corapi made a public statement. It is from his public statement that I drew the quotes from:
http://theblacksheepdog.us/
The quotes are as factual as you can get. That is what he has said against the Bishops and the Church publicly.
I tend to agree. I know he says he isn't bitter but I think the wound shows. I believe he would be better off remaining silent about the Bishop even if he thinks the Bishop is wrong. I can understand it for what it is though. I feel sorry for all involved. If it were the other way around, the Church would be accused of throwing the accuser under the bus. At least this way justice can be done in a court of law because Fr. Corapi is savy of the ways of the world and the truth can be known. The sad part is, even if exonerated of the accusations, the gossip hounds will not care. The scandal has done its damage. Was an oversight. I should have added "or detracted" (which I did so above)and no I do not know it is truth. I see his decisions are compromised by what he stands to loose .. . a lot of money. I will make no judgment as to whether his statements are true or not.
Unless he is laicized, he will always be a Fr. in my eyes. He never was in ministry anyway. Still a Fr.It matters not whether they accept it. He can act resigned which forces them to formalize it.
Again thank you Michie. I would not know much without you posting.
May God bless Father Gerard Sheehan.
"However, Father Gerard Sheehan, regional priest-servant of SOLT and Father Corapi’s religious superior in the U.S., confirmed June 19 that the order’s investigation faced complications created by a civil suit filed by Father Corapi against the former employee who had accused him of sexual misconduct"
Mr. Corapi may do whatever he chooses. I pray that those who like him do not run away from the Church. Your article linked explains much.
He does not appear to be seeking laicization.

Perhaps he feels this is the best way to go about restoring those things that are currently keeping him from exercising his priesthood? Is he trying his best to remove through civil courts the obstacle that is keeping the Canonical Process from moving forward or even requiring it? No one knows, and few are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The Bishop who established SOLT as a Society of Apostolic Life, the bishop emeritus of Corpus Christi, seems to be... I am not saying judge him as innocent, I am not saying judge him as guilty, I am saying reserve judgment.

I just finsihed listening to his new statement. What an unpleasant person. I have no idea whether he's guilty of anythiong or not, but his whole "if they think I'm on coke, let them bet they're money or their car and then I'll prove them wrong" shtick is just silly.
Where did you read he was asked to live in community and refused? I must have missed that. I pray for him and the Church as well. So that something gives where both the accused and accuser can get an equally fair shake. As odd as all that looks, like you say, the attempt to suppress him looks equally odd. I have always suspected there is more to the reasons behind that, that people aren't realizing. He became a loose canon before this accusation, whether its true or false. I saw him at the Cintas center, I think one of the very last conferences and during the day heard all about the whistle-blowing, the new Harley, the death threats and .45 apc concealed weapons permit and the personal trainer 6 days a week. Not to mention the died beard and eyebrows seemed completely vain to me. I didn't place any expectations on him beyond the message conveyed. I do believe he was caught up in his lifestyle and don't blame the Church for heading that off, for his own good and the good of the Church. I still want to see justice done though and don't care one bit if thats done in a civil court. But an autobiography named the same as your new endeavor that coincidentally comes out soon after his announcement that he is petitioning for a release from the clerical state according to his superiors; who asked him to return to live in community and he said no.
Just strikes me as a series of ill planned moves at best.
None of this means his message was not good, but I pray for the man because this is all just odd.

The head of his order in response to his announcement said in the NCR article:
The investigation was halted after Father Corapi sent us a letter resigning from active ministry and religious life. I have written him a letter asking him to confirm that decision. If so, we will help him with this process of leaving religious life, said Father Sheehan.
He expressed disappointment that Father Corapi chose not to remain in SOLT and to refuse the orders invitation for him to live in community, leaving his Montana home. Father Sheehan said he had tried to arrange a meeting with Father Corapi before any final decision was announced, but had not heard back from him. Father Sheehan said that SOLT would issue a statement shortly.
We wanted him to come back to the community, and that would have meant leaving everything he has. It would have been a drastic change for him, Father Sheehan said. We will continue to move pastorally and charitably, taking steps to protect his good name.

I worry about him actually. He has said some stuff about Bishops and now this "black sheep dog" thing.
