Companionship is a serious undertaking. There must be mutual investment and commitment. Worthy partners are generous and willing to give of themselves for the other's benefit. The gains and challenges are weathered by both.

Their heart and sincerity compels the same in return. You can't force someone to be loving or supportive. If the connection is strained and hopeless, it's unlikely to change unless both are willing.

Don't settle for a half life or half love. Hold out for someone who deserves your hand. In the meantime, speak to your ex and try to work out an agreement about the child. Talk to an attorney too. Legal aid can help. But try to get her on board if possible.

Keep the discussion centered on the child and your mutual want for her welfare. Affirm her qualities as a mother to minimize disagreements. Hopefully, she'll work with you.
