  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe I c ommitted the Unpardonable Sin this morning. For many years I have been plagued with satanic thoughts against the Holy Spirit and with selling my soul to the devil which I have vigourously resisted. This morning, however, I was trying to refute him by saying out loud " I believe the the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit only what came out of my mouth sounded more like Whorely#. I am extremely distressed and just wonder (a) has anyone else had a similar experience and (b) is there any way back from this? I am a Christian and I do not believe that the works of God are those of Satan, quite the contrary but I am gravely concerned about the above and it is already informing every aspect of my life. Any advice most welcome.

This happens to me, too. It's probably a demonic entity making you do this to torture you, and to make you give up and think you are condemned. Whenever these thoughts come into my head, I ignore them and I tell Christ that I would never say those things and mean them. Try not to let them bother you because you have to ignore them. I know in my heart that I would never blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Read the bible and repeatedly tell yourself that you are not dead yet, and God says He would never leave you or forsake you. I honestly don't know how to make them stop.

Thank you for replying to me. I am trying to apply this logic to the situation at the moment. The thoughts I have learned to cope with over many years but the verbal aspect is new and extremely worrying. I love God and wish to be led by the Holy Spirit and hate these impulses. I am sure you are right it is a demonic entity but they do a pretty good job in getting you to condemn yourself by thinking these things come from you. I do not want to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. I'll take your advice and read the bible diligently, and hope that my relationship with God can be repaired.

No such thing as selling your soul to the devil, that be in those hollywood movies. You don't find no account of anybody selling they soul to the devil in the bible, Jesus nor the disciples ever taught such a thing.

You sound like a few others on here who say they have OCD or something like that...are you being treated for mental illness? Have you mentioned what you're struggling with to your doctor?

Like I said previously, it sound like you experiencing a type of mental illness but you need to talk with your doctor about what you shared on this forum.

Read your Bible, if you have trouble memorizing scripture...keep your bible close at hand and read directly from scripture.

Thank you for your reply. I have been treated for Scrupulosity (Religious Obsession) OCD so yes I do have what secular people call a "mental illness" - however I as a Christian see it for what it is - sin and demonic attack - and I still find these occurances incredibly traumatic when they occur (not so much the thoughts as I have been dealing with them for years) but the verbal stuff - that really scares the hell (Pardon the pun) out of me. I live in a constant background state of fear and self condemnation even though to most others I have an outwardly "normal Life".

Encourage you, as a believer, to think about Scriptures such as:

-Yahweh loves you with an everlasting love (John 3:16-17, Jer 31)
-'...even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." Luke 12:7 (which are constantly changing)
- When we confess our sins, "...he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9
-"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." Jer 29:11
-"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Psa 46:1
- Psa 145

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9, 1984 NIV)

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13, 1984 NIV)

All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43, 1984 NIV)

People that commit the unpardonable sin will not seek God with humility (acceptance the God is God and they are not). There is a pattern that perhaps you can see from these three verses that reveals characteristics of such a person. A person's concern that they may have committed the unpardonable sin is evidence that they have not.
