• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I used to believe in something similar, in that I didn't believe in an eternal hell, but allowed for annihilation.

I came to a point where I realised how horrible feeling the smallest pain for eternity would be, and I found it inconceivable. No loving God could be so evil. Such a thing would be disgusting than anything any human could ever do. My understanding of salvation was inclusivism: That people would be judged by their hearts, not by their belief. That salvation was available to Christian and non-Christian alike. I had a number of reasons for thinking this. I also left it open that there could be salvation beyond death, based on Jesus preaching to those in hell while he was there.

Prompted by another post on another thread, does anyone believe in universalism (that everyone will go to heaven)? If so, why?

As many of the great Christians of history have, I hope that God may save all.

As many of the great Christians of history have, I hope that God may save all.

But we already know this won't happen - so why hold to false hope?
For example, we know that Judas Iscariot will not be saved.
Therefore, Universalism is a redundant concept....

I don't; obviously.
But the concept is an interesting one.

Personally i'm not sure i'd like worshipping God in heaven for eternity. Sounds like a form of psychological torture.:)P
Isn't that what Christians believe happens in heaven?

Heh.

But heaven doesn't sound much better than the place god puts people who didn't pass his test...

It would kinda take the urgency out of the Great Commission wouldn't it?

Not if the great commission is part of how it is to be achieved.

It does not seem to be the case:

There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day.

(John 12:48)
