  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know the NWT -

Do you have a personal copy?

and I'm presuming you are a JW -

Not all unitarians who believe that Jesus is a god is a Jw.

would contest the verse from John; translating it as "the word was a god",

Because that is the most grammatically correct translation.

but this contradicts another Scripture -

"Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me." (Isaiah 43:10)

Contradiction if you don't consider the other uses of theos/elohim in the Bible.

I think as JWs we don't really appreciate how many other monotheists are out there. I'd heard of unitarians before, but haven't really researched them that much (Since I don't hear much about 'em) until I was watching the latest episode of "House" where they make a big deal about him reading a book by a Unitarian minister. I did some more research and it looks like there are quite a few groups with widely differing viewpoints. Some with beliefs very similar to JWs, and some still pretty different.

What sort of unitarian groups do you know of that are out there? And what makes you pick "one" over other ones?
