So what do people do on Victoria Day?

All kinds of celebrations happen throughout the country since it's the first long weekend in Spring. If the weather is nice, many go on their first camping trip of the year. Many people just enjoy having the extra day off from work.

My husband and I just hang out at home.:)

Red Rose tea. We have lived in the US for 10 years now and we still can't find a decent tea down here. The "Red Rose" tea sold in the US is not the same as the stuff sold in Canada.

We get care packages of that (and some Tetley as well), along with President's Choice Plum Sauce and specific types of bars and candy to help us survive down here.

Cant beat a proper cup of tea.

There are some tensions in Canada between some French and some English people. I say "some" because this is not true of all French or all English. Many of us love and respect each other accross the language distinction.

The point I want to make though is that a number of years back I went a few years in a row to the yearly convention of the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada.

This convention was attented by pastors and Church leaders from accross Canada. And it was clear that we were all united in Christ no matter what language groups we belonged to or province we came from.

Personally, I am proud to be a Canadian. I am even prouder of being a Canadian Christian, and more yet to be simply a Christian with friendship all over the world.

But let us pray for our Canadian politicians, and the politicians of Quebec, that our country can stay together... and remain just and fair and resectful towards all ethnic and religious groups.

being able to say Eh after every sentence. wearing toque instead of winter hat. and being polite all the time. Thats very Canadian. I was reminded of that when I visited Glacier National Park in Montana, I actually stepped aside to allow someone to enter a store and was immediately reminded of a tv show called Due South. Its about a mountie being assigned in Chicago and it is very stereotypical canadian behaviour.

But thats the way we do, we apologize every time someone bump into us, we open doors to whoever happen to be trying to exit or enter the building, we interject eh after each sentence if we felt like it.

Proud to be canadian, eh.

When Trudeau was around we had a lot of national vision and conviction on the world stage.
Now there's another Trudeau around, but whereas Pierre Elliott went on his canoe trip and got himself a vision that a lot of Canadians could generally relate to, yet, speaking for myself only, I'm not quite sure yet what Justin's canoe trip - assuming he had one - was all about.

Pierre Elliott Trudeau did indeed fly all round the world, sing duets with Castro, etc., facilitate détente during the Cold War. The fact that he continued Diefenbaker's practice of sending confusing signals to Allies about the Canadian military did not necessarily make Allied governments listen more intently and sympathetically to 24 Sussex's interventions on the international stage.

I love being Canadian. One thing I seem to recognize is that making statements less than clearly in 57 different varieties is something at which the Department of Foreign Affairs excels.
