Those verses also let you know about 'once saved always saved'-- hence 'eternal security'

I cant believe I forgot to ask this. But this brings up another question. What if someone rejects Christ, then comes back to him? I think I already know the answer, but I just wanted to get some more input.

I'm going to say something which should have a huge impact. Some people will say no I'm wrong, while others will believe me 100%. Here goes.

God will not turn down anyone seeking salvation and redemption.

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes on him may not perish , but have life eternal.

I'd like to insert a commentary on this particular verse.

Joh 3:16 - Yea, and this was the very design of God's love in sending him into the world. Whosoever believeth on him - With that faith which worketh by love, and hold fast the beginning of his confidence steadfast to the end. God so loved the world - That is, all men under heaven; even those that despise his love, and will for that cause finally perish. Otherwise not to believe would be no sin to them. For what should they believe? Ought they to believe that Christ was given for them? Then he was given for them. He gave his only Son - Truly and seriously. And the Son of God gave himself, Gal_4:4, truly and seriously.

I read on another thread that "blaspheming the Holy Spirit" is an unforgiveable sin. In other words, once you do that you have no chance at redemption no matter what you do.

Whether or not you believe this, I have two questions:

1) what Biblical verses support this idea?
2) exactly how does one "blaspheme the Holy Spirit"?

"Not becoming saved" is an unforgiveable sin? It's not even something you can do; it's an inaction.

I was taught that if the Holy Spirit testifies to you that something is true, then you turn around and tell everyone it isn't true, then that is unforgiveable.

As for not being saved? I don't think that is unforgiveable. That would mean that a person who is an atheist all their life, is never forgiven. How cruel is that.

Two scriptures: Mt.12:22-34 and Mk 3:20-30 Which ends "Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter: but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation--because they said, "He has an unclean spirit." The "Blasphemy Of The Holy Spirit" comes from Matthew 12:22-37. Jesus casts a demon out of a man in front of a bunch of people. Everybody is amazed and starts to seriously consider that Jesus is the messiah. The pharisees on the other hand state that it was through the power of Satan himself. You can read the entire text yourself to see what happens - the point of this passage is to point out that it is the Holy Spirit who ultimately convicts a non-believer to faith in Christ. Here you have the son of God performing miracles and rather than heed the call of the Holy Spirit and accept him for who he was - the messiah - the pharisees rejected him. The implication being that the only sin that is unforgivable is a rejection of Jesus as the messiah - the redeemer - the son of God. This entire point is greatly expanded upon by the apostle Paul in the book of Romans. If you are truly interested - I suggest you check it out.

(a side note): I think this is a good point for Christians to remember - its never us who do the converting - but the Holy Spirit - and its never us who get rejected - but the Holy Spirit. The minute we start thinking it is us or start taking rejection personally I think its a good idea to step back and take a closer look at what you believe concerning the gospel - and what your true motivation is.

I saved person cannot commit the unforgiveable sin. That's just freaky.

The reason I say this, the unforgiveable sin is denying the convictions The Holy SPirit gives the unbeliever to come to salvation. It's unforgiveable because, without accepting the Holy Spirits convictions for salvation, you won't be forgiven 'your' (the unebleiver, not you) sin, in this age, not the age to come. Which also says to me, salvation is only attainable in this world.

The best example we have in the bible is in the Revelation. "The dragon and its one third stars". Actually, the dragon represented Lucifier. He sinned against God. He think he is higher than God and acted on it by declared war against God. When this incident happened, Lucifier and the angels are in spirit form. They disobey God and so they sin in the spirit. And sin in spirit is unpardonable. THey see the truth but don't want to submit to it. That is why, they are thrown out of heaven and will never able to enter it again.

Remember: Hell is not created for us but for Lucifier and the fallen angels and those who follow them.

So please don't try not to sin in blasphemy against the spirit. God is Spirit. We are in the flesh but remember we still can commit sin in the spirit.

One thing we have to remember is that to blasphemy, you have to actually speak the words. If you think the thoughts your well on your way, but you have not commited blasphemy tell you have actually spoken against the Holy Spirit. To call the Holy Spirit common or unclean.

Matthew 12:37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

Daniel 4:30-31 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? [31] While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee.

Nebuchadnezzar took credit for what God had done. While the words were still in his mouth God passed judgement on him. I wonder if he did not think the thoughts, but when they were thoughts he could have repented. But once he spoke the words all the armys in the world can not bring back a word, once it is spoken.

It was the same thing with the rich man, it was not when he was thinking the thoughts, but when he actually said:

Luke 12:18-19
So he said, 'I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. [19] And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." '

Luke 12:20-21
But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' [21] So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."

It is my belief that if you deny Christ to be your savior then you were never truly saved. Jesus says that his sheep can never be taken from him.

Dear humblejoe;

Your understanding of "Blasphamy of the Spirit" is correct. There is only ONE unpardinable sin. (Mark 3:29-30)

1. "ONE" = Rejecting salvation will never be forgiven after death.

2. If you add another unforgiveable act you will have "TWO" unpardinable sins!
