• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been feeling depressed since the 6th grade. I'm in the 11th grade now. I thought it was okay to always feel sad. I thought that everybody else felt sad for no reason either, because there's nothing really much to be happy with.

I feel that I am depressed, but I have done nothing about it. Since this is the Life Discussion forum I suppose some of you would have some suggestions. Maybe an explanation of what depression really is.

All I'm certain of is that I'm always sad for no reason, and I'm confused about if that's a "medical condition" or not.

Thank you

I have depression, but don't worry. It is a medical illness, but it's nothing to seriously worry over.

Depression invloves a chemical inballance in the brain. And many sympoms include things like uninterest in social activities, lonleyness, crying for no reason, isolation, and suicidal thoughts. There are more but I can't think of any more.

What I suggest to you is to first talk to your parents about it. Then maybe suggest to them you go find a theripst that can see if you are diagnosed. They use certain medical questions to test for depression.

If you do have depression, they will probably prescribe some medication for you to help the chemical inbalance.

Hope this helps! :)

Now that I know what depression is, I realize I don't ever remember not being depressed.
Depression is a punk. I'm on meds now and it's amazing to feel that life is actually worth living. I never knew what that felt like before.
It's worth checking out. You may be depressed, you may not. A good counselor can help you out. Mine sent me to an awesome psychiatrist once we figured out what the problem was.

Wonderful post MC..I'd just like to add to be careful with the meds. I'm on Paxil and that has worked well for me but the doc had placed me on Celixia and that stuff drove me bonkers.
